I bet there are some people working at Behringer who like making cool shit. Too bad they work for a thieving anti-semite piece of shit.

And I’m always doubtful of their “clones” which are very often more “workalike” than real copy. Kind of reminds me of the early days of third-party VST plugins where users saw that plugin with graphics that resembled vintage gear sounded more like the real things—even though no actual dsp programming had been done towards that goal. But the word skeuomorphic is fun.

So the company ends up focusing silly amounts of effort on replicating form factors but not circuits or performance. The Dimension D lookalike doesn’t really match the respective mode of the Roland original and is built on a fairly different circuit considering that it is still a BBD stereo chorus with left and right modulating in opposite directions on the LFO with some additional stereo and eq tricks—that is, for doing functionally the same thing, it’s weirdly different. But there’s no need to have it take up two rack spaces—the surface mount board is not crammed and there isn’t a big need for surface area for knobs or switches because the controls are simple. This easily could have been 1U, or even a half space. But it wouldn’t have looked like it sounds as good.

So how workalike is the PPG-ish thing? The StudioLogic Sledge shooter for PPG experience from a Waldorf Blofeld-based engine with a lot of hands-on control. Which some dug but didn’t seem to light the world on fire. Are we all digital or is this hybrid with analog synth backend to a crunchy digital sampler/wavetable setup? And if it’s all digital, other than look and hands-on, how is this better than a plugin?

If you're gonna do Behringer synths you might as well get the modular stuff, it's stupid cheap.

I refuse to shame TC Electronic, Behringer-owned though they may now be. As a value and quality brand they have not faltered, only improved and grown into it more.

I dunno, the t.c. Plethora I dropped yesterday, the single pedal that does any TonePrint sound, and until this moment I’ve held off on commenting that the pedal will make a huge mark on 2015.

 I've never tried any toneprint stuff, or anything digital after the fireworx really. I like them for all the affordable analog classics they've been bringing lately. Pretty much everything in the big brick pedal format (Rusty Fuzz, June-60, 3RD Dimension, Fangs etc) is better than it has a right to be for the prices.

I gotta say those brick-era TC's are great fer d'munny (Fluorescence is my fave), even if they sorta remind me of those Dan Armstrong direct-2-guit boxes of yore (and how is that even a bad thing?).

Such as the olde days, it's always a blind taste test to the onlookers that find the similar product at twice the prixe when deciding btwn one or the udder, so I don't hold it against any party involved if one isn't a 1:1 dupe, because when you're hot, uh  Luckily, that Space-D still sounds OK with all the buttons pushed in at juance ::poppedcorngiffte::

Also gear is in the ears, tones issin thee bones, yapctha yaptcha yowtha. But a $30 double VCO is gonna sound pretty alright, I mean? Late stage capitalisme, etc.

I do love a good challenge, however, andi guess I'll keep all those loots fer meself now  :idk: :poke:

If it were me, I would accept Uli’s wares as a ILFSS gift in the spirit of love and exploration. Even with skeptical eye of “it’s an authentic X” the stuff generally seems musically capable, with some tempting me despite me not wanting to give Uli money. I have Sweetwater stickers I can remove the “Swee___er” from that I can put over brand badges.

I'm a big fan of the behringer wares. I think they're as morally murky as any other big company.

I really liked their dimension clone. I've been thinking about flipping my dc2 waza and getting it again. It doesn't sound the same, but it sounds great with all the buttons pushed in. The waza will only let you press two buttons at a time :mope:

If I had a reason to, I'd pick up that big blue keyboard. I'm going to limit myself to only one keyboard outside of my modular case, though. That keyboard looks too tedious to use

Yah, I feel this, too. I mean, if you wanna Korg MS-20 physically, your odds are the OOP mini reissue (around $500) or the Behr K-2 (jury's out which MK version is better, but who knows?). Soft synth version is endless, but patching that thing is a great tool that I wish was better served to the whirld, either whey.

Wish I had a good use for all those stickermule donkey stickers I have lyreing around instead of them reminding me of my poor CEO decision making

Also, I appreciate this whole thread conversation, becuz it got me outta my tunnelvision stalker head at least for a few moments of clarity. Thanks, everybuddy! I mean that.

I saw. I'm curious, but I don't want to just buy stuff unless I'm actively going to use it.

edit: if it was something I thought I'd use, I'd buy it. But I don't want to buy it, find out it's not for me, and then be stuck with it because it's so hard to sell used behringer stuff.

Maybe you have something sitting around that you can't get rid of that you can trade for someone else's used Behringer.

I also like seeing a computer keypad on a synth. I really don't know what I'd do with it but I look at the Chompi every couple of months.
