Just ordered a St Vincent

Post by popvulture »

Finally sold a guitar yesterday that I wasn't playing at all and could see better use with someone else.

I guess a month or two ago, I played a St V at a local GC and fell in love with it—great feel, light, perfect sized neck, awesome pickup configurations. Frankly it'd been a while since I'd played a guitar that offered something new. Anyway, I've been jonesing for one ever since. Got the white one. Stoked as balls.

Now I just have to wait until Monday, most likely :grumpy:

Nice, super curious about those. Gotta head to Sacramento sometime and try one.

Especially interested about how that vibrato system performs

I'm jealous. There's a shop about an hour away from me that has them and I've been trying to figure out some way to get out there to give it a try.

Yeah I was honestly kinda shocked at how much I liked it. I'd really never spent much time playing anything Music Man besides a bass here and there. I'd always liked the look of the Albert Lees, but didn't (and still haven't) ever get a chance to check one of those out.

I'd recently been wanting a more shredder-y guitar, but I was having issues with everything I was finding, namely that the necks were too thin and most were unfinished. I'm not a fan of either of those. The closest I was finding were some Charvels, but they still didn't do it for me.

The St V has a good bit of that fast Music Man feel, but the neck is thicker and has an oil finish, so it's a little more to my liking than unfinished. Plus the pickups satisfy a cool niche, being more high gain than what I usually use, but having a little more chime than a full humbucker. I haven't had a chance to see how the trem performs yet, but I'm optimistic w/the locking tuner setup. Def pics to come!

I never saw this model in person... what I dislike about most Music Man is that they look very small (probably something with the headstock). I'm 6foot3 and they all look like toy in my hands.

Congratulation on the new guitar!

I know what you mean—I'm 6'3" as well and have a similar problem with a lot of guitars (can't play a Mustang, for example). The SV is not a shorter scale, though—I was once again surprised that this one didn't look small on me. The headstock does look a little weenie—that's pretty much my only complaint, and it unfortunately applies to all MM guitars.
