EQD Fuzz Question

Post by experimentaltrash »

Hey gang,

I'm new to the forum but love all things Earthquaker.

I recently joined a rock band with some 90's post-punk influences and a folk chord vocabulary.
I'm setting up my pedalboard to accommodate these sounds.
Right now, I've got an EQD Hummingbird for tremolo and an MXR analog delay.
I'm having trouble finding a good drive sound with what I've got though.

I have a tubescreamer, a sonic distortion, rat, shreadmaster, three big muff's, ds-1, blues driver, and a tone bender.

I'd like a pedal that's capable of those creamy fuzz tones on the last couple of Malkmus records. I know he uses a Fuzz Factory. But I'd also like it to be capable of some more classic 'marshall-esque distortion. Most of my overdrive in this band is gonna come from the tubes in my amp. But l fuzz and distortion seem necessary as well.

I'd like to keep my rig as simple as possible in this band so I'm hoping for a one pedal solution. I was eyeing the fuzz factory but I'm afraid it'll be too one sided. So I started looking at the EQD pedals. Obviously, there are a ton of great drive options at EQD but I have limited experience with them. Would a Hoof solve my problem? Any other suggestions on an EQD solution?

Oh, and I'm playing a Jazzmaster into a Fender Blues Deville 4x10.

EDIT: I just saw the demo of the Zap Machine and that is EXACTLY what I wanted. Stupid shame it's sold out now. Any chance of this one ever coming back?

Maybe look at the Dirt Transmitter and/or the Tone Reaper.

Will do, I'm liking the bias control on the Dirt Transmitter.

We might make some more zap machines, it's pretty much my favorite dirt pedal. It's more of a natural sounding distortion than a fuzz really. I think you would like the hoof or the dirt transmitter. The hoof is more well rounded, you're not going to get anything
But smooth and warm from it. The transmitter can cover a lot of basses but it has some overlying grit to it all times.
