There's a new Cure album? I guess I'm looking forward to that then.
I'm looking forward to it too.
If it ever comes out.

Waiting for new albums that could/should come out this year from this bands too:
Carcass (hopefully)
Wolves in the Throne Room
The Physics House Band
Mastodon but in reality is just to hear it and be disappointed
Good list!

I really liked the last WITTR - apparently many people didn't. So I'm pretty hype for that.
Carcass have never released a bad album. I am totally including Swansong in that list - it's 90s heavy metal, but it's sick. The post Surgical Steel EPs have been a bit.. treading water-ish. The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue was fun, but the EP as a whole was alright.

Still, I'm kinda excited and scared.

Mastodon... it can't be good. But I'll still go in hoping it'll be great. And that hope will be crushed.

Why would you do this to yourself?

Masochism is a thing, ok?

The new Youth Code sounds like its gonna be pretty sick.

I'm interested in the new WITTR but I don't have high expectations for it considering it's on relapse. I didn't like that last album though so that's probably why I don't think it'll be very good.

You know that feeling when your favorite band starts to put out albums that are progressively worse but deep inside you still hope that someday they will surprise you with the best album of the decade?

This sums up my relation with every new Mastodon album after CTS.

didn't know the last WITTR wasn't appreciated by many people. Why is that? I like it, but yeah, I hope they don't get the Relapse-treatment.

I mean Primitive Man has been on Relapse forever and I wouldn't say it's impacted them at all.

I guess I have the luxury of having come to Mastodon fairly late, when they had already started sucking, so I never got that let-down feeling, have no hopes and I can just appreciate the first 2/3 for how great they are and pointedly ignore them in the present.

Valid point.

@cbs well, they are/have been one of my favorite bands ever to the point that I even got a tattoo. I'm talking about one of those 2 or 3 bands that literally change your life because of various reasons and events connected to them, so you can understand my disappointment.

I’m not quite on that level but I saw them 2005 in Sweden touring leviathan. It was a festival gig but at a small indoor stage. For whatever reason id gotten it into my head that they were kinda metalcore overrated Kerang-hype rubbish. Still, they were a metal band so of course I went to see them anyway. They opened with Iron Tusk and the place went bat shit. After a minute or so I was so fucking sold. So I pushed my way right up to the second or third row, right in front of Troy. Second song was March of the Fire Ants.

Fuuuucccckkkkk!

I have hardly headbanged so hard in my whole life. After the gig I was loitering with a buddy outside and we see mastodon wandering off, presumably to their bus. I tried to thank them but I was literally speechless. Only words I remember saying were “fuck guys, just... fuck!”
I had no clue who they were but I was star struck.

So the first two albums for me were and are two of my all time favourite albums. I’d never heard anything so ferocious, and shreddy, and groovy. It was just as much cave man breaking shit as it was zz top. Blood Mountain came out the year after and I was hooked. Crystal mountain never really stuck (though it’s my drummer’s favourite mastodon album) and then they fell off a cliff. Last time I saw them in sthlm I mostly stood in the bar and paid too much for beer. :idk:

Yeah I can cosign a similar experience. Saw them touring Leviathan with, I believe, Killswitch Engage and Slayer in a 1500 person room. Went for Slayer. Hadn't heard Leviathan yet (although a friend's mom who was a total head had recommended it to us earlier). Totally blew me away. 110% amazing set, brilliant live act, sounded great. Every record and live gig I've seen from then has just been progressively more "eh, it's fine (including the same venue I originally saw them at), which is all the more disappointing because of that amazing first gig.

However, Emperor of Sand was... not bad? I'm just a Mulder when it comes to new Masto records.

The sad thing about picking them up late is not having that early gig experience
