We all do.

I made it through my poor, no-food week, now I just need to wait another hour for my check to go through and I can order a pizza.

Went to a super awesome show tonight.
Met a lot of really cool people.
The bike ride home was incredible.
There were almost no cars out and the stars were pretty bright for the city.
Things are good.

Re: the happiness, excitement, and general contentedness thr
I found a PhD program at a very good university that is willing to let me pursue my PhD as a distance ed student. The only difference between doing this online vs on campus is the location - my diploma will be no different and I'll have all the same rights/benefits as I would had I done it on their main campus. AND it's one of the best schools in this field and I'm not too late for financial aid.

I'm not saying which school unless I'm accepted - don't wanna jinx myself.

Re: the happiness, excitement, and general contentedness thr
I am hanging out with family tomorrow and all week I've been concerned about the scars on my arm from when I used to self-harm over a year ago. I had this weird thought tonight of buying make-up to cover it. Then I remembered the guy who lived in my room before me whose stuff is still in our living room would paint in his spare time when he wasn't shooting up (or after he shot up by the look of the paintings). A white water paint covers that shit up insanely well.
I think I just need to stay away from water though.
This is probably a weird thing to be happy about, but
oh, and I think I've got enough stand-up material for an open mic set, I just need to practice/polish the stuff that I have and work out some of the other ideas I've jotted down. Writing is starting to come a lot less forcedly.

A quiet, rainy morning with my son. He's running around in circles and I'm catching up on TV.

Re: the happiness, excitement, and general contentedness thr
Today had one really stressed out dip to it. But otherwise, it was a really good, really active day. I got my dad a father's day gift that was personal and I know he enjoyed (gift card to his favorite restaurant) and I got to hang out with family and really just joke around because I feel good after coming off a spell of feeling depressed.
Then I caught my roommate's band's set at a bar. I've seen them play plenty of times, but the bartender was super cool and gave me a bunch of samples of nice wheat beers and only charged me for some of the ones I drank (I actually ended up sticking with the one I first got, Halcyon Unfiltered Wheat (which I decided would be great with a lemon slice)). And I realized the drummer and guitarist/vocalist (they're a couple) in my roommate's band are two people I really, really like talking to and feel really really comfortable confiding in. He (the drummer) was the only person IRL that I've told I've been writing stand-up material. She (the guitarist/vocalist) I was having a critical discussion about musical style with.
I dunno, today was a good day. Ok, public Internet journal, how are you?

Spent the day at swimming holes and hiking trails near Ithaca with my better half and some friends. Jumping into the water from abandoned structures. Hiking through gorges. Eating sandwiches and making shandys.
