If you're looking for me, you better check under the sea, 'cause that is where you'll find me, underneath the sea lab, underneath the water, sea lab, at the bottom of the sea.
I HAVE ACCEPTED THE NOLK INTO MY LIFE (mailman just got here). I WILL MEDITATE ON WHAT IT MEANS TO BE OF THE NOLK (i'm a third shift worker, going to bed now). ON THE MORROW I WILL SING THEE PRAISES (hoping to be able to record a demo tonight).
Look, this wasn't here! There was nothing here! There was this space! And there was a building or something with flames coming out of it, and there were creatures writhing around, and they were growling and snarling. And there were flames, and I heard a voice say Nolk! It was right here.
Just received mine today. Audio coming soon, and I'll put up youtube demo at some point.
Initial impression: I like it a lot! It's staying on my board. It plays like a 50/50 muff/superfuzz hybrid, but easier to tame than a superfuzz, with quite a bit more transparency, and much less of the knifey frequencies normally found in superfuzzes and other scooped mid fuzzes of that nature. Stacks really well with my single op-amp DS-1 before it. Really practical-sounding. The bottom end on the scooped mode is tight enough to be percussive with lower frets and palm mutes in a really cool way. The non-scooped mode isn't as nasally/gutteral as a typical super/hyper fuzz's mode 1, and I could see it replacing my Ram's Head clone in a pinch.
Good for doom, stoner, sludge, rock, psych, industrial etc. If you need to get a more aggressive doom sound, it plays well with other dist/fuzz/OD. I was able to get surprisingly close to the Electric Wizard Dopethrone-era scooped tone (Hyper Fuzz mode II) by pairing this with my distortion and graphic EQ.
More details coming as I play around with it more and figure it out. Like I said, audio/video coming when I have the time.
