Re: The Automotive thread
They are both drivers, they drive them around town and out of state for car shows. Those pics were taken at a recent local car show they went to, really good photographer I think. My dad also has a 34 Ford Sedan and used to have an Anglia body that needed to be built but he never got around to it and sold it to a fellow who finished it, raced it and wrecked it.

Re: The Automotive thread
Awesome. I'm really glad to hear that they are drivers. Like pedals, they are meant to be used. Anglia has always been one of my dream hotrods! Too bad it is gone though (hope the guy is alright).
My dad did the same kind of thing with the Malibu and 56 Ford pickup. Just never finished them (barely started). Sadly the morris minor and ah sprite seem to be going the same way. They moved way far away though, so I don't really blame him.
He was trying to get me to buy the 4x4 willys station wagon thing off him. For what? I couldn't fit it in my driveway.

Yeah the guy was alright. He sold it to another builder who restored it and had a deal with my dad that he would get dibs when he sold it....but he sold it to someone else for more money than he had made the deal with my dad for. I loved that body, it was like a fixture to my childhood sitting in the garage all them years,

Re: The Automotive thread
That's one thing about the car world I didn't like; the kinda wheeler and dealer mentality. You know, like words don't mean nothing and its just about getting mine or whatever. My dad would tell somebody and draw out a "chip foose" kinda sketch (he is a really great artist, esp. with cars). He'd save up money, do the work himself, and all the sudden there was the truck he was building driving down the street built off my his designs. He'd sell it and start over, not talk to the dude or whoever stole his design for like 10 years, haha.Uncle Grandfather wrote:Yeah the guy was alright. It's too bad you guys don't have it 'cause I know you guys would've done something neat with it.
There was this brown anglia delivery that used to always be around Famoso race track. It was my favorite car man. I would go to the drags and make sure I saw it run the 1/4 mile each time (it was a bracket racer...I wanna say it ran in the 9s and would hit over 200. I swear it it did 250 though). Think went down the track at an angle it had so much torque and small wheel base, haha. The champion bracket racer out there was a guy that drove like a 1978 chrysler station wagon that was pretty stock I think. Dude knew how to dial in...

Mine, but I dinged it, and it's sitting till I get the 280z finished an out of the garage. Old cars are like flipping gear and there are a bunch that you can get for cheap.

Supras are pretty neat, used to run against a white one back in college with my '93 RX7. The RX7 was an absolute blast to drive but finding a mechanic that would work on a rotary engine was a bitch. From looking at videos and manuals it seemed pretty simple but I still had to haul it two hours for service.
Good deals with: Officer Bukowski, Caesar, BriBri, Amorphous, ThePastRecedes

Dang it, Chankgeez, now I want one of those. That's pretty damn cool and I'd never seen one before.Chankgeez wrote:
What are smog laws like outside of California? Pre-1972/3 you don't have any smog checks or anything here. My dad doesn't have to do then at all on any car in Washington. We have goofy laws here too. Like somebody puts in a fuel cell, they deny registration. I had "euro" spec emissions stuff on my Beetle and it was deemed illegal (because it wasn't California approved...luckily it was a 1972, so smog exempt. Only reason they found out is because CHiPs flagged me down and made me drive my car into a mobile dyno for a random emissions test. They said that all the parts were illegal [my engine was imported from germany and was custom...long story], but it was the cleanest beetle they had tested in the state). CHiPs was like "You're lucky were letting you go with illegal parts"...The hell I was lucky, I was exempt.
Yea, sticking to pre-1972 from now on...I failed a smog check because I had a faulty tire pressure sensor that tripped something on the dash...auto failed. Stupid freaking thing.
Speaking of weird laws, anybody heard about the repos the FBI is doing on imported cars because they haven't passed American safety standards? Lots of Nissans and Range Rovers are getting taken. It's just weird. http://jalopnik.com/the-feds-just-seize ... 1605985758

I always thought those RX-2, RX-3s and R-100s were awesome. They were banned from some racing for a while because their was no way to regulate/equalize (restrictor plate) them with traditional piston engines. Fun little cars though.

Too many damn cool cars out there.
There was an RX-3 or R-100 in Japan that was gold flake (and maybe some blue or red on it?) that was really awesome. Can't find the video on youtube anymore, but it was doing some nice burnouts in a little alleyway. I'm gonna keep looking.

Pretty sure that neat one was a RX-4 though and I think I was wrong before.

Re: The Automotive thread
There was an RX-3 project car on my local CL a while back, I wanted it real bad but it was a little too much of a project for my skill level and a little pricey. One day.
