I feel that. I'm not in a band anymore and it'd be an opportunity to sell everything and acquire it. Keep hoping another used one pops up.

I'll take combos over stacks all day. Virtually all combos allow extensions now.

Only reason I'm trying to get a stack is because there's no hellhawk combo.
I'm in the same camp. I love a good combo.

Gonna be hard to part with my AOR and MIG but...

I sold my original Model T to buy a Hellhawk years ago, never did. Sold my MIG100H and Beta Lead to buy a Hellhawk, never did, sold my Rockerverb 100 to buy a Hellhawk. Never did. It had to take actually saving my money to buy my Hellhawk and took crashing and selling my car to buy a Mother.

Let's just say I've had a LOT of speaker cabs over the years.

Im playing in Richmond on Friday for the first day of tour and then we have a show with Eyelet at CCAS some time in July I think. The rig in the picture is what I use for recording and playing at home.

My live rig is a much simpler PT2 as seen here:

I run that into the Science heads live sometimes but if Im short on space Ill use my Mesa 400+ and an EVH 5150 50 watter. Then the guitar side goes to two oversized 2x12s and the bass side goes to a Mesa 4x10. Its equally loud and crazy looking :thumb:

Damn, man. That is a tale of woe, but it was worth it, right?
I've recently stumbled on some dirt cheap laney cabs you can pick up used that are actually hardwood and quite well made. Just need to restock them with decent speakers, but you can recoup the cost of the cab by selling the celestions that are in there anyway. So that's how I'm gonna roll from now on.

Skully, that is a world of UNF!!!! All over the place.
So good.

Also WIMK, I love the black control box with the rainbow cable party.
Black and colour is sweet.

Was thinking a Hellhawk with KT88s and black walnut on elephant black tolex would satisfy me.

Well I just was really uneasy about having the amp shipped to me because of where I lived and not really trusting my roommates. So I'd puss out every time. But I had an opportunity to try a lot of different amps and cabs out with that money, so it was worth it in the long run for the experience.

At KT88 Hellhawk would be everything JCM800 that shipped with 6550s wishes it could have been.

What do kt88 tubes contribute to the sound? I noticed they seem to cost more.

Not quite sure, probably give you better headroom because they have a higher wattage than EL34s and 6L6s. Also the option probably exists for people sick of Fender sounding (6L6) amps and bad sounding EL34s. Though back in the day they were just putting 6550s in Marshalls because they were sturdier tubes but they weren't adjusting the bias so you'd still get premature tube failures and sterile tone from the amps being biased too cold.

:excellent:

Yeah, they have a ltittle more headroom, sort of a different sound.
Some describe it as "more hifi" (whatever the fuck that means), but I think clarity at higher volumes is a key selling point as well as a nicer top end.
I'd do it just to be different.

They literally mean more hifi! KT88s are the tubes of choice for hifi stereo integrated amplifiers, like, for record players and such. You're spot on. KT88s and 6550s offer incredible headroom and clarity when you're playing so loud it feels like your head is going to explode

Example of KT88 integrated amp:
