Not the function but the name of them

If it actually affects the frequencies in the negative feedback loop then that's cool with me, but if it's just a stupid treble control then it can eat a dick. I'd prefer the Hotcake if it had a tone control as well - I find it super dark on all amps that aren't AC30 based. But I still dig it a lot.

Yep, mine's the same, from the mid 90s or so, I think. There was a time when I never turned it off but these days…
The Rat love has never left me though. Rats are forever.

I tried out the Basic Audio Shore Bird (John's version of the Rat). Really nice. Probably the most versatile Rat I've ever played.

W&C gets them custom made. They are quite sexy. Might have to get my hands on another BoW in the future.

I mainly play a Telecaster into a Bluesbreaker combo and it works really well but I can see how it could be a little more temperamental with humbuckers or a darker general sound.

I took the photo right after I was done wiring up, some of the settings had gone kind of screwy in all the movement but the Hotcake is more or less right.

I think the pot on the current version basically allows you to blend between both settings, while the lift switch on the older one just gives you either nothing or everything...Right?

If so, I can see why you never got along with yours. Even with the presence control though, mine's too dark and muddy with the gain dimed. I use it as a mild od, in combination with my amp's dirty channel. I mainly keep it on my board for when I'm using my vox, it seems to work a lot better with the hotcake's higher gain settings.

if you wanted to pay a bit for it, I work with a ton of metal shops that could make that but it would hit your wallet harder than a hammond box

I would just buy broken EHX pedals

Fooman and I have similar taste in doublecuts.

Same old going on on the gig board.

Rangemaster -> Output 1 to tuner -> Output 2 to Holy Grail -> Volume Pedal -> SSBS Fuck -> Diamond Quantum Leap

Not exactly sure, but I think that's right. It's the only Hot Cake I've ever played. I never liked it in the "Normal" setting, only the "Mid Lift" and even then it always sounded more like a distortion than an overdrive to me. Not that I really like either one of those types of dirt very much. I guess if push comes to shove, I like lower gain overdrives and/or higher gain distortions. The Hot Cake sat somewhere in the middle.
