i didn't get into Nu Metal…as i grew in the 80's listening to thrash and then later to death metal…to me Nu Metal was a waste of time…almost a dumbing down of music. However…Slipknot i would not put into the NuMetal category…maybe their first album in some parts was nu-metal, but there were also some very good songs on there…but Iowa and Volume 3 are amazingly good albums. The drumming is flawless, the vocals and lyrics are quite mature and well written and the guitar's…sure its not intricate, but for the the music they were going for, i think they did a damn good job. I think in Volume 3 they hit their musical peak collectively…and after that they were rubbish. Also, live, they put on one hell of a show…

So yes…I admit…I'm a slipknot fan for those 2 albums.

So now that i have alienated myself…let me get back on side…

Ax…thats a hell of a pedal board man. Do you use all those dirt pedals live individually? or do you stack?

...what happened to the DOOM ROOM? Comparing haircuts and cigarette brands while debating the merits of nu-metal? And in the midst of it all, bands like Loss are getting trashed? What happened to this forum?

Time for a reset.

I have seen Slipknot, and System of a Down, and they were significantly more fun than Morbid Angel, The Sword, and Opeth, whom I have also seen.

Soilent Green is, to evoke late 00's Eminem, super gay. As is most technical metal/breakdown-core

You you joking about Soilent Green or actually deaf? Soilent Green isn't tech metal nor breakdown-core. This is the most perplexing thing I've ever read esp when someone is trying to say what style of music they are playing. I mean I literally think you are deaf.

I don't really want to rip into anyone but I've literally never heard anyone describe or actively think that's what they sound like. Be it they are a fan or not of the band or has any sort of knowledge of aggressive music at all.

I'm just quite flabbergasted. Esp since if you are going to claim they are that they must be some originators since they have been around since 1988.

There's a period between the two -- two separate thoughts.

Maybe paragraphs would've been better.

Feel free to rip away -- they're lame. Pussysoul is mad overrated.

BUT -- I will say I heard them after I was safely down the powerviolence wormhole, so it was probably too late for me.

I came of age around the millennium, and nu metal was all the rage, did enjoy some slipknot in high school. But we were also the first kids to grow up along with the internet, underground stuff wasn't that hard to find. End of the nineties Relapse was really important to me. Sounds From the Animal Kingdom, The Poacher Diaries, Times of Grace, Calculating Infinity, Temple of the Morningstar... heavier, weirder shit. That WWE soundtrack bollocks fell away pretty fast.

Looking back an album was really important in getting me into extreme metal was probably Strapping Young Lad's City, musically that stuff was a whirlwind of intensity, but it was angsty, and Devin sung/shouted like someone pissed off, you didn't have to acclimate to growling etc.

Soilent Green always left me a little cold for some reason, I liked heaps of similar stuff, Goatwhore's in the same category... hmmm.

Oh that's fair enough that you don't like them. I don't care about that. but how you I thought you had labelled them I was like I said above... perplexed.
and what's up with that when you listen to powerviolence means you can't listen to anything else? I guess there is something wrong with me since I actively write/record/and perform in 2 pv bands.

Anyway Soilent Green is one of the main reasons why I started buying up Ampeg SS150's and 140's so much. I love that tone.

Sam, I stack the shit out of the dirt. the 5 loop controller is in the gt 10's effect loop. channel one is just pharaoh as I like to use it with all the other channels. 2 is the ape blaster as it is also good in front of things and it loves pharaoh in front of it, 3 is burial chamber > revelation > quantum mystic. Always used with Pharaoh. 4 is a muff I built into destroyer, 5 is EQ. Lots of flavors and I have to resist dialing them all in to a similar sound.

Hate nu metal, I listened to all the thrash bands back in the day and when heavier music started to get popular I thought some of those bands would get the recognition they deserved, Instead we got Korn, who I fucking hate with a passion. they just never rang true to me.

I saw Soilent Green with Dethklok a few years back. That was an amazing tour! I got into Soilent Green back in... 2003? I heard Sewn Mouth Secrets and thought that it was just the fucking shit (as it was).

Picked this up today for being my friend's DD tonight:

hahaha that movie is great.

I really don't care much for Goatwhore being down here they played almost every single show ever I went to in nola. I know most the guys in both bands. and fuck yea Dub, same here with Relapse. So much great influential shit it's just ashame after mastodon they got more just I guess ass with their signings. Only recently they started putting shit out like how they used to like I didn't even know they released that new Obliteration album and the first words out of my mouth was when the fuck did Relapse start giving a shit about death metal again? As label loyalty the only one that I can pretty much guarantee is going to be something great is Dark Descent. Matt who runs it has great taste and used to live down here when he first started it up so I helped out as in going over to his apartment and dropping him half my paycheck for releases.

Sewn Mouth Secrets is still my favorite release from Soilent Green as well.
