I'm not sure what ypour point is? I thought the Jax was simply a rebranded Univox/Shin-ei Superfuzz?

Re: 10 fuzzes to rule them all!
I've played a few dozen now, I'm mostly happy with the ones on my board.
It helps I'm not a Big Muff fan at all, that pretty much cuts out a good portion of the market. If I get the inkling any given day, I have the Sodameiser which gets in the ballpark and I keep simply because it was dirt cheap and occasionally useful. It's not a preferred fuzz by any stretch.
And that's eleven on the board plus another dozen off, and a few in the occasional bin.
Also a case though of it's a case of what amp/guitar combo is being used as well for what works.
I'm a 'the amp will stay clean until it lights on fire' guy, and always will be.

It's a re-branded Shin-ei Companion/FY2. Doesn't really sound like a Superfuzz either.

Re: 10 fuzzes to rule them all!
The Intention of this thread was not to throw them all on one board, just to name the ten that are sth. special for yourself. Maybe this is more a hoarder/collector thread - nevertheless very interesting for me.
My List is BTW still accurate. Feeks a bit strange somehow...

The so-called ''mk1.5'' Tonebender and the Italian-made V828 Vox Tonebender are different pedals/models though -albeit very similar in a 2-tranny, Fuzz Face circuit type way. No?

Re: 10 fuzzes to rule them all!
Favorite Fuzzes I own (and love)
1) IC Muff clone: just rediscovered the tone section after living in bypass for a while. Wow! I love this pedal!
2) Fingerprint clone: usually my low-gain fuzz. I usually just leave it on. The dynamics are great and the oscillation is awesome and surprisingly versatile depending on chain placement and technique.
3) Does a Rat count? My all time favorite dirt circuit but my 3rd favorite fuzz!
4) Algal Bloom: the newest member of the fuzz family (thanks Pizza!). Still learning the ins and outs but I really like the hazy crunch it gets at the higher gain settings.
5) HM-2: needs no introduction.
6) Modded Blue Box: c11 mod, 1/2 octave mod, and a SHO at the output stage. Crazy loud, crazy destructive.
7) French Toast: very abrasive industrial fuzz. Doesn't get much use but I do like the toanz.
Fuzzes I imagine I'd like
8) Fuzz Factory
9) Super Fuzz (orange and blue enclosure, obviously)
10) A Tone Bender of some kind. Preferably a really doomy one.

goroth wrote:Hey Tris, can you tell a bit more about how you are using the caracol? I've been intrigued for ages but hardly understand the description.
Well, it's been a while due to Dutch customs fucking up terribly but I finally have had the Custom Caracol here for a few days now and I think it's awesome!
It seems to be a different beast from the regular Caracol though, it sounds quite a bit darker and more textural to me.
The added dry volume doesn't so much function as such but it can give a crazy rubber like attack to the sound you and when I cut back on the ctrl knob the sound can get into reed or brass like textures whereas with it full up I'm getting more sitar and banjo like stuff (especially with the focus full up), it also stacks wonderfully well with a lot of my other dirt pedals.
I seem to like my Custom Caracol better before my main drive though, where I preferred the regular Caracol after it, the regular Caracol as well as
The Unpleasant Surprise might be a bit more suited to get regular octave up fuzz sounds when paired with a drive unit but there's something about the
Custom Caracol that the others don't seem to have, it's more controllable for me on the broken sounds than The Unpleasant Surprise too but the latter one does sound heavier and lets the low end through quite a bit more on it's own.
The Custom Caracol really reminds me of the Warmjet V in the way that it also is one of those fuzzes that just have so many unique textures hidden inside.
I think it will be one of my "secret" pedals where people are going to wonder how is this guy getting that kind of sound you know, it's that special.
Overall I'm really loving it a lot so far!

Earthquaker Devices Terminal (My go-to fuzz. Works great with the Bit Commander and the Ghost Echo.)
Devi Ever Torn's Peaker (preferably with oscillation switch)
Wren and Cuff the Caprid (J Mascis in a box)
Earthquaker Devices Tone Reaper (original, all germanium version)
Verellen Big Spider (Octave-y, sinister, vile fuzz monster)
Mellowtone Melxowtone (Who needs knobs?)
Fuzzhugger AB-Synth (I love my 5-knob one)
Boss HM-2 (So much magic)
Electro-Harmonix Little Big Muff (70's IC Muff with 1 knob, not the modern thing)
IdiotBox Blasteroid (I wish it had sounded good with my main guitar, but it shredded with my Gretsch BST-2000)
