i'm finally out of Chicago. let me just say, fuck that city in the ass with a hot poker. i'm at a rest stop about 40 miles west of the Mississippi River on I80 in Iowa, where the rest stops have wireless internet! i'll spare you the ugly details of cramming eleven guitars and a bass, three amps, and everything else into my truck while my cousin nattered at me about how he thought it'd be better for my cat to ride 1400 miles in a carrier rather than him having to take her to the airport next week. i just found WSM out of Nashville on the car radio and have been howling along with "Please Help Me I'm Falling" and when i'm back in the car i'll return to the Ernest Tubb Texas Jamboree program. i LOVE real country music. you should hear the pedal steel playing...good God. i'm going to drive till i drop in hopes of missing as much of Nebraska as possible, but since i only got six hours of sleep and then loaded the truck ALL DAY LONG i'll probably have to kip somewhere just the other side of Omaha. i hope i can keep going, but i have to stay safe. my kitty needs me. and i miss her desperately. but my Long National Nightmare is over, and i'm on the way to the next thing. no more pencils, no more books, no more constant carping from Doug, who is a good guy at heart but just doesn't know how to act. internet at the rest stop...i love living in the future.

it's not that it's a BAD place per se, it just goes on for two hundred miles too long. i kept hoping i would enter a wormhole and get spat out into Wyoming.

just outside of Denver now. no epic adventure-moving thread this time, because it's a chore for which i can spare only the bare minimum of time and money. there's been wild and strange things which i'll probably forget before i write them down. i'm going to be SO GLAD when this trip is over.
