just saw Dino Jr. last night in Clifton Park. J's still rockin the purple frazz.

I don't know how he plays with that setup behind him EVERY night. even with earplugs my ears were still ringing. fucking awesome, but god damn.

He won't crank his amps up to 10 anymore, beause a while ago, his Marshall Superlead head blew up and caught on fire....

He had a hiwatt custom 100, some marshall PA head, and a Reeves custom 100. The reeves blew halfway through the set so his tech went behind the stacks, pulled it off and replaced it with a plexi. I wish that would happen whenever my shit doesn't work.

Just realized something with my Frazz. It's the first fuzz pedal I've ever had that I actually like better AFTER a buffer.

When I first got it, I had it after a Hot Cake (with the Hot Cake off, just talking about the HC buffer here) and loved the tone - that controlled thick chaos. I pulled the HC from my board and noticed the Frazz still sounded awesome, but it was a bit spittier, not quite as thick, and the chaos was a little harder to reign in when I needed to. Still, it was better than any fuzz I ever played, so it stayed.

Now I've got the Hot Cake (and it's buffer) back, I plug into my Frazz and the tone that had been 95% there these past few months was now back exactly how I love it.

Just a tip for frazz owners who usually like to keep their fuzzes before any buffered pedals. Try the frazz after a buffer. To me it makes it tighter and thicker.

Interesting realization there, LW, thanks for sharing! The Frazz actually has an input buffer so it shouldn't care too much about where in the chain it goes.. I don't really like fuzzes that need to be first in line, I might like my fuzz anywhere in the chain. I never try any of our pedals with non-true-bypass pedals to see how that affects their tone though, that's an interesting angle to think of and experiment with. Thanks again!

MBT, that's cool to hear about the purple Frazz! I've never really understood that kind of volume that J seems to need... I think that kinda makes for an un-enjoyable experience, even with earplugs in.

What if one day when you were playing, your Fender Twin Reverb stopped working, and a gnome came and replaced it with a Vibrosonic Reverb.

The difference is subtle and not noticible in all situations, but it is definitely there enough to affect the way I play certain parts. Then again, it might be more about the EQ on the Hot Cake's buffer than anything else.

Also, am I the only one that would like to see J. Masics team up with Lemmy for a Marshall stacks of deafening goodness tour? Not sure who would drum ...maybe Grohl. He beats the hell out of that kit. I might trade my hearing for that show.

Definitely interesting, James! I've gotta pick up some non true bypass pedals so I can hear that interaction... you try to design around every circumstance you think might come up but it's hard to know how everything is going to play with everything else. Thanks for letting me know about that!

Speaking of Dave Grohl on drums, I always wish I could have caught a QOTSA concert with Grohl on drums, I think he's a kickass drummer.

i wanted to cry when kyuss broke up. i mean it was like two months after ...and the circus leaves town came out. i was very happy when the kyuss/queens split ep gave me hope. the first three queens albums are golden! the others are just silvery, still good, but....

i love queens, i just think that josh really needs nick oliveri back.

Just went to the Arctic Monkeys show here in Toronto (great show BTW) and Alex Turner was using a 70s Ovation electric for almost the whole set and all that I could think was Homme must of hipped him to the Big O.
