Recommend an overdrive....

Post by SteveAlysis »

To replace my OCD. Got stolen at a show a few weeks ago, and now im looking for something new

Anyway, im looking for something, thick and middy with heaps of clarity. I use little gain, but still need that thick chunk as it'll be my main dirty dirty.

I was thinking monarch, but haven't seen a propa demo of it suiting my needs. What yall think?

I don't think we make anything that does what the OCD does. I was using an OCD for a while until I made the Monarch, the OCD has been dusty ever since. The Monarch does the big low end thing the OCD does but it has more growl than bite on most settings. It's also a little more natural sounding than the OCD in my opinion. If you back the bass down and crank the treble up to around 3 O'Clock and set the gain just below max, you should get a similar-ish sound.

Thanks for your input! If you say its more natural sounding than the OCD, im sold. Also, im not trying to mimic the OCD, just looking for a fresh sound that has some of the qualities I lliked about the OCD.

Thanks again!

the demo fuzzboxgirl did of the monarch really opened my eyes up to how versatile it is. i thought it was just Orange overdrive sounds, but it sounds like a really sweet pedal. as for me, if i ever sell my M9, i'll probably get a monarch or a white light, because i really dig the DOD 250 sound.

You can't go wrong with the Monarch.
Seriously.
There is a mad amount of versatility and tones, and it can go from subtle dirt to serious gain. I was never a fan of overdrive before...and I don't think it's fair to pigeonhole Monarch as one simply because it does so much.
Special low-frequency version.

The new Speaker Cranker is fantastic! I'm in love with it big time. Check out the video demo on EQD's page. I have wayyyyyyy too many dirt boxes already, but I've fallen in love with the Speaker Cranker and I'm getting ready to purchase a 2nd one.

Actually, my first interest is in securing a back-up. Whenever I use a pedal as part of my primary sound, I like knowing that I'm good to go in case of any equipment hassles -- not that I expect any problems from high quality products of this order. Beyond that, it might be fun to stack them, but honestly, not being a super high gain kind of guy, a single Speaker Cranker provides me with all the dirt I need.

One more thing, I've been A/B-ing the Speaker Cranker versus some pedals which cost more than TWICE as much -- some in the 250.00 to 300.00 range -- and the Speaker Cranker is much more appealing to my ears. Go, EQD!
