I did the raku with newspaper

So...what are these made of?..and..how did you do it?

it's made of stoneware clay. I used a special kind of glaze and heated it up in the kiln and pulled it out of the kiln while it was red hot and put it in a metal trashcan full of shredded newspaper. I sealed off the trashcan so all of the smoke from the newspaper is trapped so there is no oxygen and that's what gives is that luster. The black spots like the craters and nostrils are just left unglazed. The exposesed clay turns black from the smoke.

That bud vase that I posted a while ago was also raku with newspaper but that was porcelain with a clear glaze.

If you type in raku on YouTube I'm sure they probably have someone demonstrating how it's done.

I never understood why people get so heated about that book. I mean, you can like it or dislike it, think its well written or not, agree with the ideas or not, etc. But tell a person you liked it and they act like you killed their family.

my scanner washed out everything, even my lighter pencil lines. but it made the marker look super bright and weird. wtf.

i'm in one of those things where when i try to sit down and draw something it doesn't work but doodles are okay, albeit very messy.

here's some stuff I threw (except for the fish that's handbuilt). I was all excited about that teapot but I dropped the lid while it was bisque and it broke. I tried to glaze it back together but it got all fucked up in the kiln. The little cup in the front looks asymetrical in this picture for some reason but I promise it's not

Love the teapot. I've always wanted to make a little teapot in that style (or get one) to drink green tea properly.
