Talk me out of trading my GK MB2-500 for more speaker cabs. I do have another amp and I think the vent fan needs to be replace. I'm learning the class D amps and fuzz don't really like each other too much. Apparently you can't clip a class D amp without frying it,....sooooooyeah.

So far I've tried to type out two CL posts looking to sell or trade the amp, one post I accidently x-ed out of the tab before the pics uploaded and the second time I inadvertently did something in "no script" that made my text disappear. This leads me to believe that I should hang onto this amp just to have a backup and just save for cabs.

I will never tell someone NOT to get rid of their Class D amp. If you can't pull a muscle when moving it on a gig, it's not a real amp. :)*

Please note that I'm not entirely serious, but I'm not entirely joking either. Seems like even the good lightweight amps always have a caveat: "Sounds pretty good... for only weighing 6 pounds."

This shit is only important to nerdy gear whores like me though, because nobody else can tell the god damn difference, and odds I are I wouldn't spot it either, unless it was me playing through said amp. But, when in doubt, I say MORE KNOBS and MORE SPEAKERS is never a bad thing. MORE WATTS... nah. Fuck headroom!

I just read a post where someone asked if having a reversed headstock gave the bass a different tone :erm:

Well...I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

FWIW I love how the amp sounds clean, for solid state amps I think GK is the bees knees,...my thoughts are I could sell or trade the amp and pick up a 1001RB in the future, but I think I've decided to hang onto it and just save for the cabs.

It's funny I was listening to some older tracks I did a few years back when I was using my SVT CL miced and it sounds too clean to me  That was just before I got into my quest for what I call sonic grease :thumb: The greasy sound is what call that sound on old records where the bass isn't dirty but it's not clean... it's greasy  It's funny my sound is greasier but I'm using a amp that sounds cleaner to my ear.... The way a 400+ "pumps" when have the gain around 2.5 - 3, that's the shit there :thumb:

There make sense out of that

It is never the "same" sound but a texture... and not a easy one to get.

Again this it a to me type of thang :wha?: :thumb: I know how it is done a lot of the time on recordings [$$$ tube compressors most of the time] but in the real world I find it's finding that sweet spot where you aren't really pushing it... but you almost are.

Thatis it perfectly to me. Just loud enough where things are pushing toward the limit but not breaking the hymen.

Solid state amps can be great at this too, something people with 4000 watt amps don't appreciate. GK, Thunderfunk, Sunn, etc rule when pushed a bit.

Nothing like a 200 watt tube head and 4 foot tall cab that just gets it perfect for me though. We were jamming "in the key of Electric Wizard" last night as my guitarist put it. The Black Cat Bass Octave Fuzz helped things along quite swimmingly of course.

I'm totally failing at drunktypingon an iPad right now. Need to find a way to slay fucking autocorrect. WHERE IS CAPS LOCK gOD DAMMIT?! :omg:

A tube amp pushed almost to the point of distortion through big speakers does it for me.

None of those crossovers, tweeters, mid drivers.
Folded horns or Thiele ported cabs are what I prefer.
I also prefer big old heavy speakers to Neos, because they get squashy and roll the top off just a tad.

A hard pushed CTS sounds different that an Altec, but both sound great in their own way.

Any way I like texture even when playing clean.

You know what: you can all suck my ass. I have to say that I have a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0, tiny little 3 pound amp, and this thing sounds the balls. Yeah, I've played through SVT's before and all that shit, but honestly, to get it to have any character at all, you need to crank it so loud that its completely unusable in any realistic situation.

Fuck yur tubes

ah you doesn't hast to have big full blown 350 watt monsters, 50 - 100 watts are plenty loud and yes they can be heard over a drummer and guitar players.
