Music Genres With No Bands

Post by 01010111 »

This is definitely a moral failing on my part, but I've realized that there are genres to which I think I can describe how they sound but I cannot name a single artist in the genre.

Mid West Emo: almost acoustic intros and interludes with open strings and pinch harmonics, frequently accompanied with almost nasally singing. DS-1 optional. I don't think it sounds bad, it's just been memed to death and I can no longer distinguish the fiction from the reality.

Berlin Techno: rigid beats, 140bpm minimum, minimalistic but aggressive, repetitive, and may or may not include sampled/downgraded spoken word audio. This has also been memed to death. It has become difficult to determine what is real, what is a meme, what is a gear demo, and what is gear porn for social media clout.

Did I get those genres right? What are some genres you feel like you know and have not investigated, but somehow feel confident enough to claim to know them? Is this just my white, middle-aged male confidence?

I once coined the term Jock Prog to describe Dream Theater, but there must be other bands in the genre.

It seems like Muse (especially their more recent stuff) should be called Jock Prog

I mean, it's not that far off from Rollingsband, I guess :idk:

NE whey, all midwest pincharmonica bands are the same, from Dashboard 2 aMReplicant fOOsballdt 2 hotlieneTBT, circling th' drain.

Berlin Techno is memevirusville, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it (sorry 2 happyhardcore chelmsford ravers of ILF) :erm:

I've always thought of Dream Theater as Chudsville,USA, and always have confused them with Queensryche (still I love Silent Luciddity). Both designations are 100% correct, however.

Non-absorbing, I've begun to believe that Kraftwerk is in their own genre (just KRAFTWERK), manny have tried but garypnunn have ever surpassed (nil sorpasso).

Jock Prog is ideally any band that is too scared to be radiohead, but also too dumb to understand why Jeff Spicoli rules.

I think the best thing would have been for ol' Hank to replace Phil Collins in Genesis.
