So I sat down this morning to listen to the rest of the samples (yes, I really left this to the last minute) and got totally sucked in. Something like 4 hours later and I think I have a finished product. I'm going to give it another listen later tonight and maybe tomorrow morning to see if I need to tweak anything. I ended up using a few samples without actually processing them at all because I liked them so much.

That's a reasonable deadline as far as I'm concerned!

I'm doing the same thing. Although, I just got a Cooper FX Arcades and I am thinking I might try running parts of my track (or maybe the whole thing) through one of the Generation Loss modes to glue everything together with some lo-fi degradation.

Also, I definitely agree about the harp samples. I only used a small part of them through some delay, but they sounded so nice!

Woo! The harp was the first MIDI harp I found online some years back... but the tasty instability in the sounds is from a Game of Life visual sequencer program, so you can either set up stable patterns or ones that decay into chaos. (And I literally have no idea how MIDI soundfonts work... I had some Win95-looking program to load them and basically grunted at my screen until the GoL program decided to interface with them.)

That Game of Life applied to sequencing is something really cool :thumb:

I have wasted so much time at work messing around with a Conway's Game of Life now. So interesting to see the chaos that you can create with a few tiny inputs.

I am very curious how this is used for sequencing?

Also, I really want to try and program the Game of Life into the Critter and Guitari Eyesy so that the visuals evolve with the music. I don't think I have the skills to do it, but I might give it a shot.

Okay! So I have been doing some admin work to keep my info complete and consistent. I have DM'd folks that I see finished files from on the Google Drive. Which, so far is:
JM Charcot
moid
Paul C

Let me know as you upload your files and I will pester you for a few details.

When I'm at home I will find the link to the sequencer and send it your way (or maybe just the file itself, as it's pretty old and may be gone from the net by now.)

Did you find Golly or something similar to play around with Game of Life stuff? It's really addictive, even if you're not a math nerd.

I am still into this, by the way! I'm set up on my new computer and one of my goals from next week is to install Resolve and spend some time with some tutorials. I will put my track where you can find it and DM you with some notions.

I found playgameoflife.com

I also watched a few videos of Conway discussing Game of Life. He apparently hated it for the longest time because it overshadowed everything else he ever did. Apparently he's too old to have any hate left though.

And awesome, I'd appreciate the link and/or file!

Also, I'll hopefully find some time to finalize my track this weekend
