I think I was the only one in the entire place that was rooting for the Ferrari against the Vette and the GT. The Ferrari spun out on turn 2 around the 2 hour mark and the entire place exploded in applause as the Vette and GT passed him.

Mine does stall sometimes, but not always, when I'm coming to a stop. I can usually goose it enough to save it from stalling. It will also buck when climbing a hill. First thing I did was clean the MAF sensor and replace the air filter. No luck. It could be that the throttle body needs to be cleaned, as well. But, I haven't done that. Also, I have suspected that I have a vacuum leak in the intake manifold gasket. Replacing it is a job I don't care to undertake. I sometimes get a misfire code, too. So, it could even be a bad fuel injector. Then, my fuel pump went out. I thought that must have been the cause of the stalling. (I was in a jam and had to have a shop replace the fuel pump. $800, said and done. Fuck.) Still stalls. My dad started having a similar problem with his car. He had a new oil pump put in and says that fixed it. My oil pressure "gauge", in the truck, jumps around before it stalls. So, the cause may in fact be a dying oil pump.

Dunno, if any of that will be of help to you. But, some things for you and your friend to think about.
Fuck. A lot of what you're describing is exactly what i get. It does overheat sometimes, but also the oil pressure "gauge" starts to wile the fuck out whenever it's about to shit the bed. Good to know that this might be a more common issue than i'd thought with this car, or just that someone else has had any similar experiences. But also, the first time this fuckup started, the coolant did get boiling in the reserve tank, and my temperature gauge shot up real fast, which it did again last week when the car shat the bed again. Was going to flush, check the lines to make sure the coolant wasn't clogged, was recommended i try swapping the thermostat too, and it might be a dying oil pump. Ugh and fuck, but also it's manageable.
Start with a thermostat, also check your hoses. They get soft and can collapse under pressure causing it to overheat at time or under a load. Flush radiator or check for good flow or leaks. Check ALL cooling hoses. I bought a car that was over heating and they put a hose on that didn't have the metal spring support in it and it was collapsing. Got a nice little car for my daughter for cheap :p After that get the head gaskets looked at. Look for leaks around the gaskets.

Thank you for all the advice, everyone! My friend put me in touch with someone who's better at this shit, and they're going to help me look at it. The money for the repairs came together, it feels great to get this weight off my chest!

Just bought a 1994 Corolla in pretty good condition for 400bux. So simple. And small. Somewhat cramped but I actually fit in it!!
And it'll be my first manual car.
It will be nice to have a backup car, especially for when I do stuff to the NARCmobile that will require more than a few hours' work.

I think those guys like taking apart and putting together those bikes almost as much as they like riding 'em though.

That's true and it would be the reality of running a beast like that.
I'd be hella paranoid about frame joins.

so My mountaineer should roll over 200,000 Miles in about three weeks and I think that is worth celebrating
I have only logged about 80-90k of those but it's been a great vehicle for many years
currently has a mis-matched tailgate lid from a glass blowout and some spots where I have ground out rust and patched and it is still in primer state
but it's been the best daily driver for a long time

What would you to do celebrate?
I thought about waiting till I got close and then loading a bunch of friends in it and just partying wherever I hit 200k

any suggestions?

Give it an oil change & slap a "This Car Climbed Mt. Washington" bumpersticker on it?

200K is pretty good though. Try to make it to 300K?

I like your party at 200K idea.
