Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I've had a love hate relationship going with my peavey Butcher and I was looking into doing some mods and I found an old thread with our own Mr Dunwich talking about removing some caps in the preamp so that brightness would calm the fuck down. I figured while I was at it I'd throw some different tubes in there to see how it sounded. I performed the cap extraction and fired it up with the new tubes and it sounded WAY better! But then it blew a fuse. and then another, and then I spent half the day trying to figure out what I did wrong and scratching my head, double checking I had done as was stated and then double checking the logic behind the mod and scratching my head as to how the hell it would cause a fuse to go. Yeah. It was a bad power tube. I feel dumb. Lesson learned, and now from here on out it'll be a one change at a time rule.

Can you post a link to the butcher mod post? I tried searching but can't find it. Also what kind of tubes did you throw in there? The honeymoon is over with mine.

Its very much like a JCM800, you want to remove the treble peaking caps on the resistive dividers and the treble caps on the gain control.

To Nick, in regards to your optical phaser: any chance of doing one with more and switchable stages down the track?

Not sure. Its designed like a univibe for the light - LDR setup with a single LED powering all 4 LDRs for the 4 stages so to make it with more stages id have to either increase the size of the circuit that contains alll of the LDRs or convert to single LED/LDR combos (which eats up a lot more real estate on the board

Well, there was some discussion over in jwar's phaser thread about the matter and there were a few people interested in both your vibe and phaser, but we were also discussing the Moog and Pi Phase, and having multiple stage options etc. We kind of thought if anyone would be interested in tackling that it'd be yourself, and my guess would be those of us who are fans of that sort of phasing wouldn't mind if it came with something of a large footprint.
Plus I'm not shelling out nearly $700 for a Pi Phase that's made by some bloke in Adelaide.
Although I get the feeling you're about to tell me these things aren't a cheap venture...
Which I'm fine with but I just think that price is ridiculous for what is really a clone. But hey, I can't stop people paying for mojo.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition

Picked this Beta Lead up today and it sounds great. I expected it to be a bit fizzy based on recordings I've heard but the EQ has a lot of range so you can actually dial in whatever you want and it has a ton of low end.
The tolex is dirty and the corners and the nuts on the jacks are a bit rusty with age but other than that everything looks to be in good shape. Next step is to pull it out of it's head shell and give it a good cleaning.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Anyone having more than usual bad luck with Craigslist? Had quite a few odd emails, waaayyyy more than usual. Had one guy say my price was the same as it goes for on eBay.......so that means its priced at market value then?!?
This morning I had a guy try to talk me down because it had "later model handles" on it.......none of my pics showed said handles......
Another seemed very suspicious that I asked if he was within driving distance or if I needed to ship it
And 2 Canadians that were annoyed that I was gonna charge them to ship it
I think I'll just keep it now ffs

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
This is always my fear - Craigslist weirdos. After a few bad Craigslist experiences I'm on a run of two good deals with cool people. It seems to go in streaks.
If I was selling stuff I would probably stick to Reverb.
At least when you're a buyer on Craigslist and trying to give someone cash for their stuff it seems like a coin toss. They either flake out and disappear, or they turn out to be cool people.
