Hello

Is it possible to modify the Zellersasn to complete kill the dry signal from passing through? Either via hardware modification or software update?

Thanks,

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no way to do it with software because the dry signal is never digitized.

Sorry for that

No worries.

Is it possible to do as a hardware mod?

yes you could do it by removing certain parts.

Would you be willing to share the details on how to accomplish this? PM is fine if you don't want this 'out there' so to speak.

Full dry kill would make this integrate into my rig a lot more fluidly.

And I do fully understand this would void any sort of warranty protection I might ask for later. I am well out of warranty anyway.

you need to remove the back plate.

you will see there are 3 circuit boards, 2 of them are stacked together.

you need to remove the smaller of the stacked boards in order to access the opposite side of it.

once you can flip it over you can remove R18. This will disconnect the dry signal from the output mixer which sums the wet from the dsp with a buffered dry signal.

Thanks Scott. I'll give this a try this weekend and report back.

Just to follow up I did this today and it worked like a charm. Dry signal is totally silent.

One unforeseen bonus is it feels like the limiter, not having the deal with the dry signal, is less aggressive. Anyhow, for anyone who likes to run their loopers in parallel with their dry instrument signal, this mod is the trick.

There’s probably no going back though. That resistor is small and I definitely don’t have the skills to reverse this.

so now you never hear dry signal? what if not record/play mode? do you hear your dry signal then? Do you use it predominantly in AREC? If not, I imagine you hear your dry signal when recording and also when overdubbing???

I keep the zell in a parallel path to the main dry guitar signal, so I always hear the dry signal. I use arec and r=b mode about equally.

If you’re not using a parallel path the mod probably isn’t worth it.

nice, glad it worked out for you.

If you wanted it to go back sometime down the road pretty much any repair shop should be able to easily install such a resistor. or you can just send us that 1 board and we can put it back for you.

Thanks for the offer. I'll take you up on that if need be.

Truth be told, it's working so well this way I can't imagine going back.

For those who might wonder why someone would do this, I use the Zellersasn in my live looping rig, which is built around an Axe Fx 3. Disabling the dry signal allows me to run the Zellersasn in a signal path parallel to the main guitar signal path, and post process it with effects that are unique to it alone. The main guitar signal does not bleed into those effects. This also avoids any bad phasing issues that could occur when running parallel signal paths.
