I posted a bunch of stuff in this thread:

You can't go wrong starting with Lee Perry, King Tubby, Augustus Pablo, Niney, Scientist, Mad Professor, Adrian Sherwood, etc. Stuff like that. That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I've forgotten a few key players.

Yeah that's a good thread for reggae and dub.

I think the big thing about that kind of music is that there's so much of it its easy to get bogged down in the old stuff and miss out on some of the newer stuff that is actually quite good. Jr. Gong is the easiest example (and really the only Marley offspring I can get behind), but there's a load of others.

Not that you shouldn't listen to Scientist. Everyone should listen to Scientist.

I tend to get bogged down with the older stuff.

Twilight Circus has been posting full length albums. I like them, but some of them aren't really so new.

Scientist (myrrh linked the best one IMO)
Prince Jammy
Lee Perry
Augustus Pablo
King Tubby
Linval Thompson

Also check out anything on Jamaican Recordings, Trojan & Greensleeves, in general.

Taught myself *how to play bass* with a fretless 4 string; by grooving along to records like these.

This was awesome.
Audio Active is good Japanese dub, more on the electronic doopty doop side than the bass guitar thumpa thump side. Also this is their promo photo.
