i was iffy on the black fade...i generally don't dig the recent weird Fender bursts and fades, but seeing it next to the pink paisley one brought out the modernity in context and i like it now. the blue-into-black American Pro reverse burst still makes me uneasy in a way i can't quite define, though.

i actually had some rainbow sherbet last night and thought of this post.

i've been rotating guitars in and out while testing the newly completed setup, and thought it'd be fun to get a picture of all the electric guitars that are currently working.

after i finish the current projects i want to do a Double Jet with a Powertron at the neck and a Supertron in the bridge, some kind of parts guitar using a Höfner Galaxie neck and 3 Höfner "staple" mini-humbuckers (i basically have 35% of a Galaxie and will probably put it together with a Jazzmaster body which goes with the scale length), and a Telecaster with, shall we say unusual pickups, that'll give me everything i like about Teles and eliminate everything i don't. it's not likely any of that will happen for awhile though other than the SuperPowered Double Jet which i could do just by swapping pickups in a current production model, though if i got a bug up my ass about the Tele i could order parts and have that together over a weekend.

now that it's finally shipped i can tell y'all that the guitar i've been dreaming about since 1970 will be here on Friday. it's a Gretsch 6136-1958 Shephen Stills signature model White Falcon...vintage Falcon construction could be somewhat whimsical from year to year and even instrument to instrument, and Stephen's has a variant of Gretsch's "trestle" bracing which is different to the bracing on other most vintage and reissue WFs. this is the guitar he played on the electric disc of 4 Way Street (except "Southern Man" where he played an ES-355) and with Manassas. it only happened because i had to take a ton of money out of an otherwise irrelevant 401k (i have no resources and can never retire) to get a new used car and thought "what's another $3k between friends?" i'm getting old, and i figured if i didn't go for it now i'd never do it before i die. so i get to have at least one thing that i wanted when i was a hungry teenager. well, two...i got to live in San Francisco. this photo is from the Music Go Round Albuquerque website...i'll get better pictures when it comes home.

it's on the UPS truck, which i can watch on their app as the driver meanders around the downtown Charlottesville area, am i going up the walls? why. yes. it was delayed from Friday...apparently UPS thinks the sensible route to here from Norfolk is a detour to Laurel, Maryland.

Please put me in your will for that White Falcon. If unable, I'll also accept an ES-355 (as a consolation prize).

i feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled across an example that was 20% cheaper than the going rate for no good reason. thank you, Music Go Round Albuquerque.
