Does it still sound like an aluminum neck with EMG’s or is it mostly for stability and such?

I use EMGs because I want the low impedance signal and bit of compression they have when feeding my octave split rig. EMGs sound like the whole rig is glued together nicely. Passive pickups don't work as well for the bass side of the rig.

Any fuzz that wants a high impedance direct connection wont get along with any active pickup or buffered system but I never use anything like that so active pickups work well for me.

Honestly that makes sense. I have an 85 in the bridge of a cheaper guitar and it mostly just sounds like an 85. I could imagine with your rig and how low you’re tuned the 18v mod would also be crucial.

Running an octave down mix I could see where you would need a tighter signal
