i put a ceramic Jensen 10" in the Princeton, and it made it like 300% better. i kept breaking into a grin while playing the M-75T through it.

What speaker came with the Princeton? I really like Jensen speakers. I put a P10R in my 5-watt Lectrolab combo, and it sounds killer. My Airline has a C12R in it, and it sounds almost exactly like the amp’s original Jensen. I still have the original Jensen speakers, and they work fine, but I wanted to prevent blowing the Airline’s speaker, and the 10” that came in the Lectrolab sounds a bit harsh in the upper mids.

a cheap Celestion called the G10R-30. i'd compare it to the cheap speakers in 60s/70s Fenders by Utah or Oxford, but it's not as good. they go for $20-25 used, which is a literal indicator of what they're worth.

my favorite speakers are JBLs and Jensens, which are quite different but still similar somehow at least to me.

That's great that the Jensen made it so much more enjoyable. The last time I had a Princeton reissue, a new speaker brought it to life. The improvement was ridiculous

and it's EVEN LOUDER with the Jensen than it was before, which is astoundingly loud. i have to turn my AC15 with a 12" Greenback up to 75% to be as loud as the Princeton on 3, and on 6 it's loud enough for the neighbors to complain.

I'm an amp hoarder. Also have a Traynor YBA-1, Mesa DR Rev G & Orange Thunderverb, OR15 & Dark Terror you can't see. Mostly just use the Super Lead and OR120 slightly pushed as pedal platforms these days.

Ok.. ok.. sound wise they are leagues apart. The OR120 is a very early model (s/n#900's), front mounted with drop through transformers. It doesn't want to give up the goods until deafening volumes. To me, the gain is more reminiscent to my super lead than the Matamp & Electric, but can get beefier depending on the position of the F.A.C.

The Matamp GT120MV (green) and Electric Amp MV120 (black) are very different being master volume amps. I found it really had to work hard to find a "good" clean sound with the Electic. The more you bump up the "fuzz" knob the less friendly it gets with fuzz and drive pedals. It does have an unbelievably thick core tone with massive bottom end. The rotary switch can tighen it up a bit, but its best if you leave some bass in and let it do its thing.

The Matamp GT120MV has been modified by another builder. Presence now controls the signal from the tone stack going into the phase inverter. It is now a secondary gain control. Rewired phase inverter to match the 70s GT120 schematic. This amp is very versatile and can do decent cleans to an onslaught of thick wooly distortion. The two gains really help shape the tone and feel. The drive knob is very hairy. The presence give it more of that tight power tube punch. Best of all, it takes fuzz pedals phenomenally at any gain settings, unlike the Electic.

So yeah, quite different beasts. Way more gain, lows and low mids with the Matamp/Electric. For cleans and ligh crunch it's hard to beat the OR120. Anything else i go to the others, and usually the Matamp as its the most versatile.

That's really interesting thanks! I've been interested in all those amps for a while but not had the chance to try.

Built the cab last Christmas with my dad. We were just winging it and weren't working from plans. Any experienced cab builders please feel free to comment on any additional bracing I should add. It's sturdy though and reasonably light weight for a 4x12.

Head is a 68 Sunn Spectrum II. They sound huge together.
