Like a lot of things people need to be careful by just following along. While I agree with her anti-trumpness I also understand that the "pop" conception of her is not exactly accurate and she is not a "liberal" or "progressive" as she seems.. Nothing wrong with that... As long as you don't put a big hopenchange sticker on her forehead and follow blindly... Think for yourselves. Always.

No one is actually sure that she isn't Cherokee. For recognized tribal membership, the Cherokee want some level of evidence. What she was going on was what her family told her, and who was she to call Nana a liar? A fuckload of Oklahomans have some Native American blood or, like Warren, at least have been told they have.

Mudfuzz, care to articulate Warren's failings as a liberal/progressive or provide links? Standard American-farthest-left-liberals-are-moderates-in-any-other-industrialized-democracy stuff or within norms of American liberalism/progressivism?

Taking Warren to task for anything related or unrelated to native heritage has nothing to with Trump's remarks being racial or inappropriate. They're separate things.

Here's a hypothetical situation that would alter the specifics, but maintain the context, for reference:

Trump is having a press conference, recognizing the contribution of black WWII veterans, of which there are several very elderly black veterans attending. Trump remarks (off script):

"You served your country and fought for it, even when maybe everyone around wasn't so nice to you. You helped a lot of people, you're great. We have a representative in Congress who they say helped a lot of people. They call her 'Aunt Jemima.' "

Now, Trump here is referring to a female representative in Congress who holds a pancake breakfast for inner city youth every year and once a long time ago she claimed that her family told her she has some black heritage. Trump has been claiming on twitter that she's been exposed for not having any black heritage and is just trying to trade on that claim to "get ahead" with liberal voters. So he calls her "Aunt Jemima" as a derisive comment, mocking her claim of black heritage (and hey, pancake pun, zing).

Can you see how, in a speech thanking black veterans for their service in a time where they were segregated, if the president just dropped "hey there's a lady they call Aunt Jemima" out of nowhere, with no explanation or context, those men might think "What the fuck?!" and be put off?

Warren is full of fucking shit and she knows it. She cannot prove her heritage, nor does she care to. She listed herself as a minority on her college apps because she's most likely just a moron. My sister has done the same shit and been accepted by the Lakota Indians based solely on her word. We are part Native American. How much? Fuck I don't know. We all have olive skin and tan well, but that don't mean anything. I'm also French, German, Irish, and a bunch of other shit. If you claim to have a certain heritage and try to use it for your advantage, I think you ought to have to prove the shit. It's wrong and exploitative of a people who suffered. If she is in fact a certain percent of Native American, awesome. Doesn't make your ass Native American though. You are a mutt, just like the rest of us. You guys know that shit is ridiculous. I want to agree, but when one politician is a piece of shit and another politician (Like POTUS) is a piece of shit that was eaten and re-shit it's hard to just say "Everyone's bad"

Trump is proof that you can use racism to springboard into a political career. He first came to political prominence by challenging the birth location of the President.
