Cap switch is always fun tho. I had a cheap vox that i put in another 2.2pf or whatever it is to get a bassier response and it was cool

The new Thorpy Pulse Doppler has me really bummed out.
I love the Lovetone more than is healthy, the Doppelganger is my favourite of the original pedals, and I cant beleive this new one doesnt have a dual LFO mode. That was the joy of the Doppelganger for me.
Also I really dig the square wave option for LFO1, particuarly in the dual mode...

I commented on this stuff on a.n.other forum and will copy/expand my thoughts here:

I wouldnt say the Pulse Doppler is really like the Doppelganger (see above)
Thorpys Bunker and Field Marshall seem to be pretty authentic reproductions with some extra couple options to the Big Cheese and Brown Source. Ive owned the Field Marshall and can attest to it sounding good, if you think the Big Cheese does anyway.

My concern for the future of this "Lovetone Mk2" malarkey is that frankly the Thorpy enclosure isnt really suitable for reproducing the larger Lovetone pedals as part of the joy of those was the expression/CV controls. I cant really imagine a Ring Stinger or Flange with no Name without say the CV/Carrier options or FX loop and CV patches. Wouldnt be the same. Heck, is he gonna do a Meatball without a loop and expression controls? Or just limit at 10 control pedal to 6/7 parameters? I dont think thats in the spirit of excess that made Lovetone cool.

Likewise the Pulse Doppler lacks the pedal controls and repeating myself, crucially the Dual LFO mode that really made the Doppelganger shine.
I get that things move on, and they can market it how they want, but I think its bordering on disingenuous to put "Dual" on the switch when its clearly not a "dual LFO" mode.
Call it what it is, Sine in Sync or Figure Eight out of sync modulation of the two "notches".


I am curios why the Pulse Doppler wasnt a standard chrome release like the Camoflange as it strikes me as much more a novel design and different feature set to the Doppelganger, rather than a genuine "mk2" as the Bunker and Field Marshall are styled as....

Good to hear your thoughts. Yeah, Thorpy always seemed to be a conservative choice of a partner to bring back Lovetone.

Personally I'm not opposed to Lovetone-based effects with fewer controls if they still sound good, are cool on their own, and are not sold as being total lovetone recreations.

But I very much get the hesitancy.
