Anybody know the actual ma draw of the EHX tube pedals? Just got a DC7 and wanna get some of the DIN Flex cables, but then realized I don't know what they're pulling, wall warts are rated at 1000ma but surely they can't be that heavy? Cioks guys says it could power them no prob but it looks like 12v setting knocks the available juice down a bit. The EHX "manuals" are useless, as usual.

Aren't they ac? I think the draw could be pretty hefty cause they run on proper tube volatges internally

Can't comment on ALL of them, per se, but at least the English Muff'n is powered by a 14V AC adapter rated at 1A. The actual draw is gonna be more like 600mA from the filaments and maybe 5mA from the high voltage. So...605mA? But it dont matter for shit with a DC7 since there's no AC supply.

...................well fuck, they are. A couple years ago at NAMM, I told the Cioks rep I was planning on buying a Ciokolate because I need to power a couple of the tube pedals, he said "Oh no, you don't need that much, you want to go with our newest line, they're much better and lighter and you can link them all together if you need more outs, just get the EHX Flex cables and you'll be good to go." I should've looked more closely instead of taking his word for it. Oh well, I really need more than one PS anyway, but who makes a good option with AC? I know Voodoo Lab has one, but it only has like two 12v outs.

What vidret says is right. I put a drive pedal at the end of the chain when I use my superoldshitty amp just to get a more realistic/warm feel.

It really depends on the result you want to achieve, but I suggest to put a high headroom OD at the end of the chain if you just want to color things up, otherwise you might end adding too much compression and gain.
Pairing ODs with Muffs has been one of my major issues in the past, and I change the way I place those every now and then, as putting an OD after a muff most of the times results in huge freq loss or in volume drops/bumps when turning one of this on and off.

I.e. I love to put muffs first in chain and then put an octaver aftrwards to get a huge low end, but at the same time I usually place the OD after the octaver, so it's always a hard choice for me.

I never understood gain staging and transparent overdrives until I had a little but of success the other day, using an overdrive with gain turned down at the front of the chain to hype up my fuzzes a little, and an overdrive at the end of the chain to add a little grit and (this idea new to me) act like a limiter and keep the volume output consistent no matter what happens earlier in the chain (is this an actual thing other people do? Use them like a limiter?)

I realized that the dirt flavor the ODs contributed were sort of polluting the essence of the muff and fuzz factory tones, and making them sound a little too much like the OD’s flavor. Which is why a low gain OD might be good. In the past, when trying to stack pedals, they always sounded worse stacked than they did solo’d. I finally got stacked pedals to sound better, just slightly better but they added some extra life.

Does anybody use a low gain OD in front “and” at the end of their effects chain? I know this is a pretty basic question...

My amp is so tiny so I usually just run a colorsound boost after to get it really working. I don't like running overdrives before, genrally. If I use a muff I do that though but that isn't very often

heck yehh. the od at the end is like a preamp, because who can crank an amp these days right? and the one at the front is like caffeine for your pickups.

the huge Walrus (GNURRRRRRKK!!) power supply has a 120V outlet. it also has 12V and 16V DC outs. i'm going to get one for the big board; i need 120V for the TC SCF flanger and some serious mA for the Fender tube tremolo.

I wish, I have been good but it has been at least one pedal for me every month. The slowly melting was not on my radar until drunk max wanted to make his bass sound like buzz saw - same with the super ego but that is going to happen in June

What has surprised me is the lack of instrument GAS - ever since I got my US Fender Jazz Bass, I have hardly looked at other basses.

Guitars however are my new lust I want to pick up a decent instrument sometime soon.
