I tried them out at the Hotone stand at the Musikmesse Frankfurt a few years ago. They are really cool. And they take any speaker, no matter what the Watt or Ohm values are, which I thought was pretty neat.

i usually make sure to do that, and in case you haven't noticed always follow the AP Style book, italicizing titles of albums, books, newspapers etc. and quotating titles of subdivisions i.e. songs, chapters/stories, individual poems in a collection, and the like. but it's been a loooooong day and i just couldn't be arsed.

Has anyone compared a Boxidizer/Rusty Box with an EAE Surveyor? I have a Boxi, but I'm very intrigued by the Surveyor. Is there much ground that it covers which I can't do with Tronographic stuff?

It's been like 5 years since I owned the Boxi so I can't speak with much certainty, but I think they each have different strengths.
I remember the Boxi working best always-on at end of the chain and the tonestack made it versatile enough to replace an amp.
The Surveyor can work as an end-of-chain preamp but there being no Mids knob makes it harder to fine-tune for this purpose. I think it sounds best with another gain stage after it to smooth the edges a bit, too.
If you wanted a clangy gain stage to stick anywhere in your chain the Surveyor is perfect. It shines at higher gain settings and has tons of low end on tap.
If you were using the Boxidizer as a preamp and wanted to replace it with something, the Model feT would be a better option. Less clang, but you have a lot of control, cleans are fantastic, and it stacks well with just about anything.

See that's interesting as I was using it at the end of my chain as a preamp, but found that it responded kinda weirdly to pedals going into it. It kinda homogenised everything and got a bit muddy. I've just moved it to the beginning of my chain with all my other drives after which seems to work better, but all I'm using it for is a bit of a tone shaper to add some clang so that's why the Surveyor intrigued me. If that's what it does well I might take the leap when the next run comes out. The etched ones look sick.

Yeah I sold the Boxi because it seemed to make everything sound too similar, I like having a few noticeably different dirt textures at hand.
Surveyor can be kind of boomy or harsh if it's last in the chain but it's anything but muddy. I play fingerstyle/tapping and it's hard to find dirt that maintains note separation but the EAE stuff has been really great in that regard. Definitely recommended.

Sorry for hogging the thread, but I'd like some suggestions for fuzzes. Looking for something quite thick 'n' chewy, textural/velcroish, perhaps with some light gating to keep things tight for drop tuned riffing stuff. I'm getting sorta close with my Mini w/ bias on 0 and gain/bass dimed, but it's not quite there. Something from Fuzzhugger? I've not tried any of their stuff. So many fuzz demos are just loads of soulful blues soloing or leads. I don't care about that I just wanna riff

whats wrong with the mini? Try the mini with a boost after or like a tubescreamer before. Having dirt before fuzz that cuts lows helps with riffing. It's like the same thing people do with mesas and voxes but with a fuzz. Tried and true ya know!

Good point with trying other stuff around it. I'll try that. It just wasn't quuuite what I had in my head texture wise, not sure how to describe it, but maybe playing with other things will help it.
My main issue is I use my Mini as part of my main drive tone and don't really wanna have to sacrifice that sound. I guess I could get a second Mini but if I need to do that and use a combo of pedals to get the sound I want I'd rather just find a fuzz which does the sound I want by itself yknow?
