Blooper is cool man. I think it manages to occupy its own niche in the hardware looper world. Esp if you’re a midi wizard

i'm not arguing its wonderfulness, just bemoaning the fact that they're so bloody expensive. i guess in the modern world, where the nicer Epiphones and Eastwoods are listing for $1200-$1500 and up, it was inevitable that more pedals would go to apeshit pricepoints when they got "discovered," especially with the baked-in Limited Edition vibe this and other pedals have. i would be delighted to find some way to cram it into Loop World--my major technical frustration point with the looping board is that there's only limited options for fucking with the loops once they've been recorded, i.e. half speed and reverse--but i'm not made of dollars and just bought another guitar.

it is depressing to find particular CB pedals that i could use surfing the economic tsunami, but fortunately that's only a couple or 3 things beyond the Gen Loss II which i have and love.

I like the DD-20 more than the newer iterations from Boss. I used to have one on a gig board for a good while.

DD-20 was my first pedal (along with BD-2), but at the time most of the functionality went over my head. I'd actually love to revisit it at some point, because it was great even though I didn't understand it at the time. "Wtf are quarter notes" etc.

The warp function is so silly, but I remember thinking it was the coolest thing I'd ever heard and definitely overused it.

Got again a MAE Maybe? as... I did start to have big regrets selling my old one... and the new black finish (with a glitchy hint of sparkling blue and green glitter) is beautiful!

If you do just want stuff like half-speed and reverse (as opposed to ramping and midi and whatever else chase bliss is packing) I've picked up multiple loopers from Aliexpress that do stuff like that (including adjustable pitch/speed) that are on the cheap end of things and most are quite functional. And some are in the tiny form factors that you might be able to squeeze in between other things.

the 3 loopers i have now—two Ditto x2 and an EHX 1440—have reverse and half-speed. apparently you can set the 1440 so old loop layers decay and drop off after a set time, but i haven’t done anything with it. it also is supposed to be speed-adjustable, but again i haven’t used that. the Dittos are really plain.

i had zero awareness of the DD-20, which is kind of big for board use but could be a perfect Frippertronics box. how would i place something like that in the chain? before the loopers? after the loopers? heck if i know.

Hell yeah. Still holds up after all these years.

However ye like! Use it as a looper to loop your other loopers, and put it last in line. Use it as a delay/looper in front of your traditional loopers. Or put it in parallel with your existing loopers, and have something going that doesn’t feed into anything else. Right now I have it parallel with a time factor for independent loopies.

As far as futzing with your recorded loops outside of half speed/reverse- there are options. The aforementioned blooper can do interesting things. Eventide Rose allows you to add modulation and a lpf post delay line. Expedition 60 second deluxe has an fx loop so you can insert shit into the delay line and bake it in.

My fave is Glou Glou Loupe- second fave is Echoplex Digital Pro. Slicing and dicing of the loops, changing time signatures, stuttering, time stretching, all the big sampling tricks. Gila crisis will advocate for the Looperlative LP2 for this.

You can also make a parallel chain of fully wet vanilla looper into whatever other fx you want- then you can run the loop into a million delays/filters/glitch bombs but keep yer dry guitar separate.

I know you know all this already but I CANT STOP TALKING ABOUT LOOPS I LOVE THEM.

The perfect looper doesn't exist! That's my motto since always ahahah!!! :animal:

Yes indeed, I am a super fan an (ab)user of the Looperlative LP2, but I also own an EHX 1440: that's a lovely tiny looper, for when I need something more simple and portable, with a solid array of useful functions. Or a Boss RC3: super simple but effective.

I used to have also a Loupe: it's an amazing unit, and the ReadFX are unique! But in the end all I need is my LP2 (also because it has 4 tracks, and full midi mapping, which allows achieve crazy stuff when combined with a midi controller like the Morning Star MC6).

i’ve always stayed away from multi-loopers like the Looperlative because if something like that fails it kills your entire scenario. if one of my loopers dies, there’s still two working. not that i’ve ever actually had a pedal die outright in the field, but there’s always a first time for a disaster. i use technology, but i do not trust it on a fundamental level and like to always have a second path in case something croaks. if i played out i’d take 2 amps, with one as the spare tire.

right now i’m more taken with the idea of the DD-20. a delay that long would be perfect for longish patterns that slowly accrete. it seems like a perfect complement to my existing stuff.

Yesterday I received a faulty MXR Phase 45 (Script version from late 1975) that was a bit mistreated by the previous owners. I tried my best to get it in its original state again. All in all it looks very nice, the small holes, apparently made with pliers, were used to lead a wire with a power jack out of the chassis. It has a proper battery clip again, plus the original JFETs, tantalum capacitors instead of electrolytic capacitors - and two new opamps, because the old ones were distorting for some reason. This unit sounds very sweet - at least through headphones. I haven't tried it through my amp yet.

when i wanted to tap 9V outside power with my 70s Distortion+ i hunted around on the internet, found and ordered the correct back plate for the enclosure, and filed a hole near one back corner that let me run a clip-to-power cable adapter so it worked off the main power supply.
