in other news, i finally watched some standard vs. CuNiFe Fender WRHB comparo videos, and i absolutely need them. my original idea was to Jonny Greenwood together a Squire Starcaster with some kind of tremolo, but i kind of lost interest due to the fact that Starcasters are kind of big and ugly, i don’t really like semi-hollow bodies ( hollow or not-hollow, fuck middle ground) and i’ve gone off Radiohead to an extent due to Thom/Jonny’s Zionist leanings. so that makes it simple: get a Squier Telecaster Deluxe, swap out the pickups, and go all Jason Pierce. it won’t happen before the project guitars are done, but it should be quick. i quite like the idea of a project that requires 2 hours of soldering and screw-turning, max, to sort out. gonna find some more 1M silver-mica caps to accentuate the highs…they’re great in the Gretsch Dyna Pro Jet and Epiphone ‘62 SG with Vibrola. one would probably be good in the bouzouki, too.

I've been very bad lately... I think the gear market is starting to crash here now, prices are coming down on lots of used gear very quickly, so I am snatching up deals as I see them.

Started with by grabbing a pair of old MIJ Boss pedals for cheap, one of which was a HM-2 :!!!: . The prices on those went absolutely berserk for no good reason. The other pedal was an OD-2, which I am not particularly interested in, so that will likely be sold on.

Then I scored an amazing deal on a beat to hell Traynor TS50, which I had pretty much written off ever seeing in Australia at all, so that was very unexpected! Will definitely need some TLC, and boy does it look ugly, but even still it sounds so good and is so rare here it's 100% worth the effort. I also want to build a 1x15" bass cab to go with it for bass duty.

A few days later I dropped a low-ish but still very reasonable offer on a JCM800 4010 combo (2204 in 1x12 combo form) locally that had somehow sat on gumtree for 5 weeks, the guy said yes, so now I have that too. It was a good grand less than you could hope to pay for the head version of the same amp. It's in decent shape, could use some new knobs, replaced filter caps and valves if I am being thorough about it. Sounds killer, will likely be my main amp going forward. I also definitely intend to run it in stereo with the TS50 at some point.

Next up I got a MIC Danelectro U2 56 in copper finish for half of what people have been asking for Danelectro. The Danelectro needs a new bridge plate as the original is sagging a tad, plus the string slots on the bright plate are straight up not in the correct place from the factory. They arent even close to being aligned to the centre of the bride, everything is about 1mm towards the low E of where it should be. The low E is basically falling off the fretboard as a result. Will likely make something up myself. Other than that it's a great little guitar!

I did also pick up a cheap old Sonola guitar amp made in my city, but it's kind of a mess, so that's kind of a rescue project for posterity sake. Will require a full strip down and rebuild for sure... Not looking forward to that one bit, so it's at the very bottom of my to-do list.

OH and I also pre-ordered one of the Dunable DE Yeti Baritones

I am a big fan of the improved model, the OD-2R. Has much more headroom and the Turbo mode is selectable via footswitch and has a nice volume boost.

you should be able to find some kind of replacement bridge part...besides the actual company, there's a fair bit of aftermarket Dano stuff out there. or it you're that kind of guy, you could carve it out of aluminum, wood, or some kind of plastic.

I almost forgot, I introduced my partner to the concept of a couch guitar and she bought us a Harley Benton 6-string banjo for living room strumming. It's the most Kentucky thing we own.

I love that danelectro! What a sweet color. I’ve wanted a vintage copper one with one pickup ever since I saw Broken Social Scene live- that dude had such a good guitar sound with one of those.

Seconded. I've got an OD-2R on my main board. I use the Fender chrome nipple as the remote for it. One for the Boss and one for my SurfyBear Metal. Those 2 and the EQD Terminal are the mainstays of my sound.

i decided this was the wrong place for the bouzouki project; it’s now in the Dub’s Project Guitars thread.

the Stylophone Drone Synth arrived, but i’m too depressed to do anything other that open the box. it’s a lot more of a proper instrument than the theremin, thankfully. at some point i’ll talk about it if i ever talk about anything again.

the Stylophone Drone Synthesizer arrived. on first impression it's several layers of GOOD up from their Theremin which is better-suited to the kid's market segment per the original Stylophone. this feels much more solid. i'm pleased to note that it runs on a 9V DC adapter. i'm too depressed to do anything with it right now, but it's here. someday i'll turn it on. guess i have to get modular patch cables to get everything talking. great. more shit to learn. i used to enjoy learning.

Wow, cool! Is this new for NAMM? Looks like they also have a Bandit, a Rock Master and a Decade in pedal format. I wish there would be a Musician 400, too. But maybe they'll expand the series?
