I was always a fan of Dave's works at BSRI Audio.
This Magawa is a super sweet, brilliant take on the rodent topic (and note I never really was into rats).

So I’m in a which-to-purchase thing. Line 6 has got sales going on Helix and HX stuff. The new HX One, which is like the new M-5 with tweakable momentary-switch ramping tricks they’re calling “Flux” is down to $250. Which kind of throws it into reasonable pricing. But the HX Stomp is down to $550 or often cheaper used. No Flux, tougher to power, but more simultaneous effects, amp sims and IRs, and more interfacing options including computer audio in/out.
Whaddya think? The power I can work around, the Flux is hoped to come to the Stomp in a software update, and the footprint isn’t hugely bigger. (If I didn’t have a small-ish board, $50 more for the Stomp XL would be a no brainer if Stomp is the choice.)
But I’m not sure if I’m just leaning into more because it’s more and not because I really need it or would use it. My initial draw is to just have a deep catalog of one-off effects for rotating use, and the One would do that with real time playability that is here today and not a waiting and hoping game. But does anyone use the HX or Helix stuff in a way that they can tell me I’m missing out with the single algorithm limitation?

I own a HX Stomp since few years and I love it: you have all possible effects, fully customizable, every few months Line6 releases new firmware updates, each time with at least 2-3 new effects!
I have to better read the HX One manual, but I suppose you can easely recreate the Flux feature on the Stomp as well.

The Flux seems a bit like the velocity tweaking of the momentary function on the Whammy Ricochet or being able to adjust the ramping travel on the Cooper FX Exp Gen . . . which I have . . . but which is more fiddly to setup as an external modifier than as part of a preset in the L6 software editor. So the fanboys have been salivating waiting to get that capability on the older devices.

Alabs Timeslip on the way (they're cheapest on Amazon). Octave and granular modes are what sold me, and the stereo i/o is a nice plus. The ramping/knobtwist recording is going to be fun to mess around with. Reminds me of stuff like the Astral Destiny, Ricochet, and the Boss Accel FX, but taken to the next level.

Comming: boss re2 and a bbe mindbender (needed a vibe, this toggles chorus / vibe so maybe one pedal that does to things might be useful)

Bought a Gamechanger Light from echorec and just ordered an MXR Variac Fuzz from reverb dot com. I'm going to see the latter will be a good replacement for my Crazy Horse which has been acting fussy in its current placement in my pedal chain.

Seppuku Memory Loss incoming. i don't need another stunt delay, but i love them. one of these days i have to get all of my delay/echo units out and run them into each other, but i'm afraid i might cause a singularity.

You just gave me idea to run the Light into the FRV-1 into the RE-20 into the RV-500 into the POD for five spring reverbs at once. With any luck it will transform me into a mist or perhaps a fog.

How To Disappear Completely And Never Be Found.
i took stock and have eight different box delays counting the Memory Loss, and an additional 3 rackmount units. i could actually patch a chain of 6 reverb/delays (two great tastes that taste great together!) into the main board via the patch points between the delays and reverbs. i think adding the rackmounts might be gilding the lily a wee bit, just a tad. have to run the Wow and Flutter at the end because it reduces anything to a wall of indistinguishable racket within about 2 minutes at maximum delay time.
i have the three Snazzy FX tabletop units--i'm sorry, but nobody's doing to do that much twiddling at floor level--and am evaluating them for the Big Gear Sale. i did a lot better at figuring out the Tracer City when i got it out the other night, and managed to get the noise level down to a where i can use it in loops. it was extremely noisy when i first tested it. threshold and cutoff, baby! i don't know anything about synth filters. i'll go through the Mini Ark soon, but recall enjoying it. there's no way the Wow and Flutter is going anywhere. but the question here isn't just "are they useable?", it's also "will i ever use this?"

dubkitty wrote:i'm sure it's a lot better than the specs make it sound. you're no dummy. i tend to be skeptical about anything that expensive compared to baseline, partly because i've watched as feature bloat in stupid expensive digital pedals became depressingly close to the norm over the last 5 years or so.
BTW, i've been going goofy with the Reverse Echo and Loop functions on the SMMH, and when the rest of the stuff gets in the Virus will be a linchpin of the front end board sound. you did good, Santa.
if you run a Princeton through a 2x12" cabinet it sounds fucking enormous, that was my strategy for years. and my modified Electar Tube 10 is also much louder than you'd think. put a ceramic Jensen 8" in and it kills. quietly.
Your absolutely welcome! - I loved that Virus but it sat in standby forever and I have no space or funds to hold on to a massive collection. I am thrilled ( and Jero probably is too) that your using it in a musical contex. Even more bonus points with the EHX with hazari - I may pick one up for myself if I see a good deal like I did yours because it was my very first analog pedal I bought when I first jointed the board.
Liquidated more gear, I am down to one fuzz ( my custom TP/SM Jero box) and realized I want to fuck around with a boost or OD for my JEL20. The Green Rhino was not giving me the warm and fuzzies and figured there are a lot of OD's that I have not scratched the surface yet - pretty close to picking up a ODD box from warm audio if I don't find a OCD for a good price ( I mean 110.00 brand new is a good deal)
Battled the gas for a new larger pedal board ( I know I should keep them or make them) but I managed to fit everything I want on the smaller PT metro 16 I have been using. Now that I have a real amp that I can play direct with Tubes, I can take the two notes off / whatever preamp I was using and add more effects - I adore the Wah and Chorus pedal I got and with my carbon copy and MCD70 - I have a lot of modulation covered.
So
Dirt gas again!

Animals Pedal...Thunderbolt? I've also seen it listed as "Lightning" and "Tortoise", but really it's just a limited edition of their "In Oct, 3 Foxes Talking of Dreamy Fuzz" tone machine.
