It was a bit too complicated for me to assemble, so I asked him to put it together for me — and to replace the little speaker it came with with an audio jack instead. Then he designed and 3-D printed the case for it! On its own it makes a fairly basic square wave bloop synth sound, but once I run it into some other stuff, there are possibilities here... (in this case running through a Zoia patch, killing the dry signal)

potentially useful for loop-ass kind of stuff. not sure why i'd bring that instead of my keyboard, but still interesting.

Sonically definitely not better than a keyboard. For live purposes, it's more "performative", which goes a long way with me. Anything that adds some visual flair to the knob-twisting is huge!

i don’t want to be entertaining. when i used to DJ back around the turn of the century i used to say that if i could i’d play from behind a curtain like the Wizard of Oz. the sound is the point, and nothing else matters. i’d play out in a room at night with all the lights out if i could without walking into shit and hurting myself. i don’t want to look up and see myself being scrutinized. one reason i really only do abstract experimental stuff any more is that nobody can judge what i do because i am the context.

Hardware Store Approv'd :)* :) :hobbes:

Book -> catte ratio could use some improvement, tho :idk:  :idk:

Feeling somewhat vindicated by my bad decisions when builders in the Fender Custom Shop make similar moves

I’ve been thinking about converting a short scale 5 string bass into a bassvi for a while because of the guitarness of ever other bass vi I have played and always came away feeling limited for how I wanted to play, they are always a compromise it seems, this is a different beast! Now I do think they are over priced but they have no compilation unless you want to pay for a real shergold (and can even find one). I was just lucky no one bid against me so I got it for $800 with cheap shipping. once all my parts show up for fixing it up a bit I’ll post a after shot :thumb:
:!!!: Sounds excellent, looking forward to seeing more. I think I'm a 4 string person but it's kinda nice to hear about someone else with the same issues as most other people I talk to totally love the VI  Not that it matters what other people think but good to see I'm not just a weirdo. Well, I am, but at least have company.

My GAS has really subsided since I went to this hybrid itb setup. The only pedals I've acquired over the last year are the new Chase Bliss stereo pedals (Gen Loss, Mood and Rev C) and the 3Degrees Audio multi-effect pedal. And the only one of those that I've even tried yet is the Gen Loss, which I love.

Also bought a 2013 Fender Pawn Shop Offset Special, like this one:

What I love about it: It's less than eight pounds. I had no idea how much I'd love a light guitar, don't enjoy playing my other guitars near as much anymore.

Other than that, bought a couple plugins, nothing particularly noteworthy though the more I dive into Glitchmachines plugs, the more I use them.

But yeah, been focused a whole lot more on what I have and a whole lot less on tone chasing and it is almost like the relief I have felt ever since I broke my addiction to cigarettes 15 years ago.

Still been lurking here but definitely noticed it has become a lot less active which sucks. Perhaps everyone's GAS has gone the way of mine?

Wow hadn't seen those fenders, kinda dig it!!! Light guitars are the shit.

Got this in this week and it's a lot of fun! I think my preamp itch should finally be conclusively scratched. I hadn't got dirt pedals in years now I feel I've gone too crazy with it

I find myself wanting a different wah pedal or a phaser. The BEZ in BST really brought it out but been thinking about it a while. EXP pedals are kinda annoying but controlling things with yer feet is the best. I continually have feelings that the two fancy mod pedals I have (infanem faye sing and dr sci cosmi) are a bit much and I need to just stay simple (the CE-5 does this nicely for chorus), I got them for nostalgia/curiosity respectively but I get more use out of simple things tbh :idk:

Ramble ramble.

I get that, though I feel like I flipped the other way at some point. Maybe because when I do play, it's largely for friends and people in my community, so I'm not anonymous or mysterious. And while pure tones/rigid formalism/minimal gestures are cool sometimes, I am (somewhat oddly given my personality) quite willing to ham it up onstage a little. Different ensembles/different shows can go different ways.

But maybe because I'm not a "technique" musician as much as a knob-twiddler, I am just fond of things that have a bit of a visual zing.

Only a matter of time before I pull the trigger on an H90. As a former Eclipse owner I feel that this is just inevitable. I think at this point it's just a matter of how long I'm willing to wait for a $500-600 deal or whatever. Same for the Source Audio Ultrawave, it's just waiting for me to accept it.

I’m keeping the Orville (and the PCM-80) but I also want the H90 on the floor. Part of it is simplification, actually, getting down to one box and one UI to replace the Pitchfactor and Blackhole. I need to get more active about selling stuff to fund one, including maybe going ahead on selling the ‘Tide pedals I have first rather than after. That move feels a bit weird because I’m loving those two running parallel in the Cooper FX Signal Path Selector, but I’ll be getting those sounds back and more. And if the converters are good enough that I don’t need an analog dry path, the SPS would be freed up for awesomeness as a MIDI controlled feedback looper and LS-2.

I dig what I hear and see of the Ultrawave (and the C4) but I’m trying to (and succeeding in) being happy with the dirt I already have. But when I have everything else nailed down they will probably beckon.

Those Offsets did look cool and are ripe for revival. IIRC they had some weirdness where they stuffed normie humbuckers in the JM covers. Cooler if they went with real JM or their WRHB-in-JM. Would be down.
