I'm looking at grooveboxes and drum machines with my eye on a little DAWless setup so I can make techno in my kitchen.

For the first time in ages, went in with blind enthusiasm on an Aliexpress pedal:

It's a delay pedal, all right. 80% of my buy-now enthusiasm was due to the fact this has a ducking mode. And, as it turns out, it ducks! Dialing it in is a bit tricky, it goes from too-subtle to obnoxious all at once (but obnoxious ducking may have a use case for me).
Pitch mode is kinda interesting, again, kinda janky but usuable. The other modes mostly do what you expect. The tap tempo doesn't seem great but I rarely care about tempo, so that doesn't bother me, so I also have no opinion on things like if the subdivisions are accurate or anything like that. Some but not all of the modes will self-oscillate.

Sounds fun! Ducking delays are really neat, easier than turning them on and off

I'm mulling over either an Elektron Digitakt or a Roland MC-707. I like both and it is a bit of a toss-up. I'll be pairing whichever one I get with my Moog Grandmother and Korg Minilogue.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Sounds fun! Ducking delays are really neat, easier than turning them on and off![]()

I got again a Pladask Fabrikat v3 (here pictured with my trusty Bakfram), as I found this one on the used market for less than 200$ and in very good conditions.... a steal!!
So I had to get it.

I've got a CE-5 on the way for a more straightforward set it and forget it, replacable chorus for my band/gig board. Cosmi is too complex, too many switches to think about and get wrong. I know it's not actually complicated

Funnily enough, I use a Boss CEB-3 for the same reason.

Re: Gasalcoholics anonymous? whoever said this was a help gr
A month ago I bought a KORG V-C-F filter effects unit from a seller in Bonn, which is 100 km away from my home. On the 5th July it arrived at the local parcel centre and then somehow it got lost. Apparently the shipping label must have fallen off, we don't know what might have happened.
On the 11th July I had to appoint DHL to do a research and to my great luck they were able to find it in their parcel identification centre on the 22th July. It took until this day (3rd August!) to finally arrive at our home. Phew!
Now I have it here, but I cannot do anything with it, because the fuse is blown. I have ordered a few parts, since I wanted to do a recapping anyway. Let's see if it is back to life when I insert the new fuse.
This lowpass/highpass Traveler filter is the very same as in my all-time favourite analogue synthesizer, the mid-'70s KORG 800DV (also in the models 700, 700S and 770). It should sound superb, once it is working again.

I bought a pedal !
Other than the Reverse Mode C which is on pre-order so will be ages and a couple of Moods I haven't really looked for anything new, but having sold a few things I had money to spend and eventually something caught my eye.
The seller thinks it'll be here today but the tracking says Monday, so I'll just have to wait and see, but eventually I will have my hands on a Mooer Ocean Machine, which looks like it might be a lot of fun.

Last week I received a BOSS PH-1 that needed some love and care. The seller, who bought the pedal used years ago, wasn't aware that it had once been bathing in some kind of liquid that had caused the baseplate to rust, thus also affecting the board to some degree. The battery mode didn't work as well, apparently the mechanical part of the DC switch had corroded. It took a while to polish the baseplate with sandpaper and steel whool. The original broken Hosiden DC jack was replaced.
The PH-1 sounds great and the more I play it the more I'm sure that I will keep this one.
The CS-3 is made in Taiwan, an ACA model with the THAT chip. This one was declared as defective and I got it for a good price at ebay. It turned out to work great, only the potentiometers were a bit noisy. Maybe the seller had no idea that it needs an ACA power supply or the daisy-chain method to work correctly. I still don't like the CS-3, no matter which chip is inside.

Can you elaborate on the “that chip” re CS3? I have one kicking around and now you have me curious!

Re: Gasalcoholics anonymous? whoever said this was a help gr
My GAS has been painful as of lately - I did finally manage to get a few things other than my Monthy lesson block but car repair bills and a slow sales month have put some breaks on my guitar / amp lust.
Really salavating over a QC, FX3 or some fancy modeler and for some reason obessing over a 3rd Guitar when I have two rad guitars ( I hate this shit lol)
BUT! I did grab two neat things - I got a Solar Chug Pedal and a plug in for Toontrack EZ drummer with the thrash metal MIDI pack. The solar does the modern medal deal and I like it enough to take the Bogner Ubershall off my board - its really bass heavy which I like and it was cheep enough. I have about an hour in to EZ drummer but I think I am really going to like it a lot.

Sorry, I haven't seeen your posting until just now.Jero wrote:Can you elaborate on the “that chip” re CS3? I have one kicking around and now you have me curious!
The THAT chip is so much noisier than the dbx C1252. It can sound really terrible, there is just a narrow sweet spot - and I don't like that tonal result, either. I rather like gentle limiters and the CS-3 doesn't provide that. There is a short review at Ovnilab that sums up what the BOSS CS-3 is designed to do:
http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/bosscs3.shtml
So if you like your CS-3 in the current state, you might like to do a modification to improve the tone, as the owner of Ovnilab says. I found other information in the internet where someone wrote that any modification of a CS-3 with the dbx chip was a downgrade instead of an improvement, but any CS-3 with the THAT chip benefits from a modification.

Took a road trip from Cincinnati to scenic Ft. Wayne, IN to visit the Sweetwater store. Had a great experience playing with synths and drum machines. The synth room guy helped me find the perfect drum machine and I now have a dining room table techno setup.
The centerpiece is an Elektron Syntakt, which is just the most wonderful instrument. I love it. From there, I'm controlling a Roland TB-3 Touch Bass and the Moog Grandmother. It's super funky and easy to use. If I had access to such a store 30 years ago, I doubt I'd have ever picked up a guitar.

If there had been such a store 30+ years ago, I'm sure the american landscape of electronic music would have been quite different today, but a Roland MC 303 or a Novation Bass Station (rack!) w/ an Alesis keybed synth and/or Quadraverb related option would have set you back the same monetary amount, just not as quick on the uptake of overall usability, natch. Sam Ash in NYC was close to having a Sweetwater-type approach back then (LA, too) but so much was strictly catalog-driven from my own eggsperience in those thymmes, though I still feel it's much the same for most today (who will eat my shipping return costs?).......chuckjaywalk wrote:Took a road trip from Cincinnati to scenic Ft. Long story short: I'm glad you could visit & found what you wanted! World needs more physical gear infiltrating the hands of people who want to use 'em

Good morning!
