This is the Contemporary Strat. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the maple board combined with a black headstock, so I'm tempted at some point to spray some satin black over it, though whether I'll ever get round to doing that is debatable

Still, the Floyd Rose is pretty stable despite the guitar being fairly cheap, there are some very useable sounds from the two humbuckers and 5 way switch and it has a baked maple neck (if baked maple necks are your thing).

looks like it works pretty well, tho no way in hell am i sauteeing with acetone on my gas kitchen stove top

so back to inflammable soaks, but maybe a heat assist would help with those

or i could just use traditional methods like paint, magic marker or stickerz

About Squier JMs

I have an affinity one with the humbuckers, the previous version with a hardtail and a bullet mustang. The stock ceramic humbuckers are super good, really surprisingly because these guitars are so cheap. I like them fine with the stock pots. I ended up replacing those in the JM with Alumitones because I was looking for something different, but I’m happy to keep them in the mustang at least for now. Brought it to the rehearsal space a few weeks ago and they rip at higher volumes with a big muff

I also own a JMJM, the Squier white and anodized gold. Did replace the pickups with some vintage style ones, made a by a French builder called Hepcat. I ended up trading them used and I didn’t know the manufacturer. It’s seriously the best SS Jazzmaster I have ever played. Very similar in quality to my Japanese Custom 62 Tele, which is honestly really close as well to my AVRI 72 Tele in terms of craftsmanship. You can’t go wrong with higher end Squiers. The Affinity / Bullet aren’t as good, but they sure as hell are good enough for the super cheap price.

You never sting your boards together?

Definitely do. My main setup at home is 3 boards…2 strung together and the 3rd is a looper board that takes the send/receive of a mixing board. I use a Bored Brain terminal to string things together allowing for inserts and routing.

I live in a world of option paralysis…I try not to let it overwhelm me and just pick what I feel like and am craving. I have a bunch of gear that I really need to spend more time with, and I have a few different setups available to plug into at any time. I do swap things out a bunch but my main board has been pretty static for a while. Always being on the hunt definitely slows down progress for projects, but I’ve come to a point in my life where my focus is just enjoying stuff and sometimes I really enjoy hunting down this or that gear.

I have a bunch of boards though. Main setup is 3, then I have a guitar board that’s currently build around noisy fuzz…a grab n go bass board which is totally bare at the moment but when a call for a jam comes I have a semi go to setup that I whip together based around a few favs. I have a bleep bloop board that I use as an instrument itself to make weird noises and generative sounding things…it’s a great board to put a complex pedal on to learn with. Lastly I have a few small boards one setup for A/Bing different pedals and another for just grabbing 3 or 4 pedals to play with.

Recently I picked up a bunch of 9volt battery clips that I can use to just power a pedal without a plug and use it anywhere and I’ve built up a bunch of portable setups and spots around my home to play and explore. We will see where it all goes. I may try to go pedal free next year…definitely need to dial it back…December has been a particularly big month for new pedals too.

I've discovered that Walrus Audio currently has a "National Parks" variant series that makes all of their impressive-sounding-pedals-with-hideous-graphics all look actually pretty good, for once. I just picked up a Julia because although I've always been impressed by the sound, I've never wanted to touch that grotesque, watery face with a ten-foot pole, much less my foot. They replaced the ugly mermaid girl with a majestic moose!

I would honestly pick up a few more, except I've already been on a pedal-buying jag lately and I need to cut it out.

Recent acquisitions:

homebuilt Slow Gear clone - via foot in the bst, a good trader
Fairfield Circuitry Randy's Revenge - as perfect as everyone says it is
Mid-Fi Pitch Pirate Deluxe - the amount of fun to be had with this here pedal can accurately be described as "a hoot and a holler"

Somebody listed a Gollmer Blues pedal locally. I feel kinda obliged to buy it just to leak all the juicy stuff but I also don't wanna buy a 200€+ collectors piece cause somebody said a cool band used it

oh for sure, go for it. I love hunting down gear, but sometimes it can feel like i'm looking for problems to solve



I got the red panda raster 2 in yesterday and it's pretty amazing. I'll start by saying I'm not big on glitchy/pitch shifty stuff, so if you are then this is probably EVEN MORE for you than for me, but what I found in this box was a lot of stuff not covered in demos.

I'm gonna start a separate thread with a small writeup and maybe a demo instead of barfing it all out here

My partner has been bass shopping for the last couple of weeks and I got to thinking about a new guitar. I've only had my 06 Strat the last 5 years, since I sold all my stuff to hbombgraphics. The local guitar shop had the Hofner bass she wanted and I was killing time waiting, when I found the perfect thing: a Gretsch G2655T-P-90. It's a small body semi-hollow, about the size of a Les Paul, with a Bigsby and 2 P-90s. It's a beautiful Blue/Green. I had to buy it, even if it means learning more rockabilly lciks.

that looks dope. if I hadn't filled up my guitar rack something like this would def be on a xmas list for myself.

I really love it. It makes my next amp choice harder, as now I need something Tweed-esque.
