not finger/thumbpicks? you can do a lot more "steel-sounding" stuff with them, chord voicings and double/triple/quadruple stops and the like.

Yeah this, plus I would find using a normal guitar pick really ergonomically weird on a lap steel...dubkitty wrote:not finger/thumbpicks? you can do a lot more "steel-sounding" stuff with them, chord voicings and double/triple/quadruple stops and the like.
Oddly enough, the first experiment with picks was fingerpicks. They didn't do much for me... they feel awkward, especially the thumb one, which isn't at the angle I want it to be. Plus. I'm nowhere nimble enough to be thinking about needing multiple picks... plunking away at one string taxes me enough as it is.coldbrightsunlight wrote:Yeah this, plus I would find using a normal guitar pick really ergonomically weird on a lap steel...dubkitty wrote:not finger/thumbpicks? you can do a lot more "steel-sounding" stuff with them, chord voicings and double/triple/quadruple stops and the like.but obviously not frowning on your experimentation HA
The one that looks white-ish in my pic is actually a cheapie metal one. It's not bad... I like the extra scrape-y sounds on the thicker strings. I suspected it'll be a go to alongside preparations.cosmicevan wrote:If you are open to paying a stupid amount of money for a pick, I got one of those repurposed metal picks from isbey design and I gotta tell you...it's become my go to. It was $15 which is INSANE, but pretty rock solid gift idea if you have a birthday coming up or something.
How do you go about ordering one of those? I can't find a website other than their Facebook, which I don't have, but they look really nice and I've been wanting to try some metal pickscosmicevan wrote:If you are open to paying a stupid amount of money for a pick, I got one of those repurposed metal picks from isbey design and I gotta tell you...it's become my go to. Fair enough. I also find fingerpicks awkward so just play with my fingers.Heraclitus Akimbo wrote:Oddly enough, the first experiment with picks was fingerpicks.
