not finger/thumbpicks? you can do a lot more "steel-sounding" stuff with them, chord voicings and double/triple/quadruple stops and the like.

If you are open to paying a stupid amount of money for a pick, I got one of those repurposed metal picks from isbey design and I gotta tell you...it's become my go to. It was $15 which is INSANE, but pretty rock solid gift idea if you have a birthday coming up or something.

Yeah this, plus I would find using a normal guitar pick really ergonomically weird on a lap steel... :idk: but obviously not frowning on your experimentation HA :thumb:

Oddly enough, the first experiment with picks was fingerpicks. They didn't do much for me... they feel awkward, especially the thumb one, which isn't at the angle I want it to be. Plus. I'm nowhere nimble enough to be thinking about needing multiple picks... plunking away at one string taxes me enough as it is.

The one that looks white-ish in my pic is actually a cheapie metal one. It's not bad... I like the extra scrape-y sounds on the thicker strings. I suspected it'll be a go to alongside preparations.

Of my array, the wooden pick is the least successful. I thought the thick felt ukulele pick would be a joke, but it is surprisingly viable. The green one with the textured grip in the centre that comes to more of a point is a bass pick (I think?) and it seemed handy.

For the absurdity of it, I kinda like the giant triangular one too. Makes me feel a little prog.

How do you go about ordering one of those? I can't find a website other than their Facebook, which I don't have, but they look really nice and I've been wanting to try some metal picks

Fair enough. I also find fingerpicks awkward so just play with my fingers.

Thumb picks never felt right on upstrokes for me any time I’ve tried them over the years. I try to not kid myself about my picking technique, but every so often. Probably would feel even weirder now that I’ve settled on little jazz picks.

I might try middle and ring finger picks again, though—I could maybe see that enhancing the occasional bit of pick and fingers I do.

MWFX is making more full size Judders. I messaged them on Facebook (they are posting pics there) to ask if there’s a waiting list. No waiting list, first come first served, they estimated that pedals would be available for a few weeks before selling out. When this batch is gone they plan to build another batch. They have a new circuit board which is easier to work on (something like that, I’m not certain)
