Re: Who Loves Badass TV shows? Let's hear it!
Workaholics season 3 ends tonight... pretty funny season hey!
Any of you guys like watching reality competition stuff? Right now Project Runway and Top Chef Masters are on, both pretty cool.. I like that kind of stuff.
I was clicking around for Red Dwarf stuff to watch on YouTube and found this show called Carpool... it's Kryten driving around other British comics/celebs... pretty cool! He drives around all the Red Dwarf guys including the writers, lots of laughs.

Hell yeah Adult Swim is great right now. Even though I only follow ATHF and Metalocalypse, it's still nice to see them consistently changing things up and putting on hilarious shows.
Workaholics has been great this season - still haven't seen the last two though. I love how over the top they went with it this season. The 10 second cameo from the All That girl had me dying.
I've been watching Weeds, Wilfred, and Louie this summer. Louie delivers on every level possible. Wilfried is deviating a bit from what I really liked about the show. I actually hope it's only 2 or 3 seasons, because I want the show to basically be his descent into some sort of mental illness, and they can't have a lot of episodes of him acting normal if that's the case. Weeds is pretty solid this season, but it reminds me too much of the major changes they made last season. Either way the first three seasons of that show were so good that I will watch the whole series.

That was a great season of Metalocalypse hey! I'm loving ATHF as usual too!
I've been meaning to get into Louie, I haven't checked that show out yet and I always hear how funny it is. Tanya really likes Weeds but I stopped liking them through the dark violent seasons, just lost the fun/interest for me. I don't really like real life crime/drama/violence stuff, I avoid it.
I've been watching this awesome video game on YouTube, the Legend of Grimrock, it's like a late 80s dungeon crawl style game but it's from this year. Really captures the essence of those awesome old games like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, with cool graphics and sounds.. really fun!

Yeah man! I love that they are really getting into the 'mythos' of Dethklok.
As for Weeds, the dark/violent seasons are over and gone. The past two seasons have really felt like the first few. Of course, it's not as good, but it would be almost unfair to expect that because of how funny/awesome the first two seasons were.
I will have to check out Legend of Grimrock - sounds like it could be right up my alley.
And has anyone seen previews for the new JJ Abrams show Revolution? It looks potentially horrible, but I passed a set here in town yesterday and apparently they are filming it here. So now I kinda want to watch it
They are also filming Iron Man 3 right now, but that's 103% awesome.

Tanya's been telling me all about this season of Weeds and it sounds pretty cool... I think it's neat that Shane is a cop.. and a good one. I never saw that coming!
Another couple of cool Adult Swim shows are back now: Children's Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV
I'll check out the new JJ Abrams show.. hadn't heard of it yet.

Yeah man. I've only seen 3 episodes this season since me and the wife got into watching the olympics. But it's definitely much more light hearted than the whole Mexican cartels and cops and killing and whatnot. Plus it's an excuse to ogle Mary Louise Parker on a regular basis

Did you enjoy the olympics? I'm pretty out of touch with it.. USA did well I'm guessing? Our sports are Top Chef and Project Runway...
I got some cool movies to watch this weekend... a fan-edit of first 3 Star Wars movie.. the guy removed about 45 minutes from each movie, took away all the lameness... no Jar-Jar, no midichlorians, no Padme.. it'll mainly be Obi-Wan lightsabering around the galaxy and that sounds pretty cool to me!

Re: Who Loves Badass TV shows? Let's hear it!
I've never really gotten into them, but I really enjoyed them this year. I had the common sense this time to realize that all the good shit was on at night, so I would just record the broadcast and we could fast forward through the bits we didn't care to see (diving, water polo, volleyball, etc). Mostly we just watched swimming, my wife watched women's gymnastics, and we watched the track and field stuff. We were excited to see the Jamaican sprinters since we honeymooned in Jamaica a couple years ago.
This gives me an interesting opportunity to ask a question that came up the other day. I was wondering out loud if countries that didn't have a ton of participants in the Olympics gave a shit about watching them. Iceland was the example I used - because they just don't have people participating in the summer games. I saw some Canadian olympians, but not a ton - so is the summer games a big deal in Canada, or is it just something that happens and interferes with your regularly scheduled programming?
And those Star Wars reedits sound like the best thing to happen to the Star Wars flicks since Return of the Jedi came out. Let us know how it is - and how to acquire it if they are awesome.

Re: Who Loves Badass TV shows? Let's hear it!
That's cool, I never really got into them before either.. I just haven't been a sports guy my whole life. I'm a pizza and dungeon crawl kinda guy. I think among the right crowd the Olympics are pretty big here.. although I couldn't name a single Olympic athlete except Michael Phelps and I don't know if Canada even won any medals or whatever... I mainly just hope we didn't cause any international embarrassments, Canadians don't go for that.
Let's talk more about your honeymoon in Jamaica, man! Let me guess... *cool Jamaican accent*... Right near the beach? That must have ruled hard! Tanya and I debated that heavily for our wedding and honeymoon but ultimately went for a road trip to Vancouver Island.. which in a lot of ways is probably quite similar to being in Jamaica.. coastal, laid back, herbage. Show us a pic or two! (or email me if you prefer) Were you guys at a resort like Sandals or something like that?
The Star Wars edits were good... taking out all those elements maybe makes the movies kind of confusing and pointless but it's all light saber fighting and space ship flying so I liked it a lot.
My favourite Star Wars fan edit of all times is called The War of The Star Wars. It's a grindhoused version of Star Wars... they grittied up the quality, added lame looking blood effects all over the place, changed the lighting of scenes to look weird.. but best of all, for every single line of Darth Vader, they subbed in James Earl Jones lines from his various movies through the years.. it's hilarious.
You can get fan edits for lots of movies on torrent sites, they're meant to be freely shared. I get all the Star Wars ones at myspleen.net, it's private but I'll invite you if you're interested.

Re: Who Loves Badass TV shows? Let's hear it!
Right on - glad I have my answer now. I'm more like you as well - never much of a sports guy once I figured out I couldn't throw things or run worth a shit, so I focused on dorkier (and more fun) things instead like video games and movies. I am a sucker for watching races though, so I really liked watching the swimming and running.
As for the honeymoon, we went to Negril, which was a resort spot for hippies in the 60s and 70s, and is still considered laid back even by Jamaican standards. We stayed at a Couples resort, which is an all inclusive Sandals type of deal and it was so nice not worrying about money or time or responsibility. I was literally offered dope (I call it dope because of Trailer Park Boys now
) at the airport, but opted out since my wife has a job that tests her, and it just wouldn't be fair for me to partake and she's left out
But from what I did see, herb in Jamaica isn't the mythical weed beast that people hear about - just looked like good bud (probably average for you lucky folks in Canada, hey?). We spent the week eating four meals a day and starting drinking right after breakfast and laid on the beach or floated around in the Carribean all day. We went out and did some tours a couple of days (most notably the Appleton Rum factory) which was awesome. I'm at work, but will try and remember to post pics from home soon.
All in all, it was exactly what we needed after the chaos that involves getting married and out of town families and all that good stuff. I highly recommend it - everyone was super laid back and very friendly. You guys should go for your 10 year anniversary or something
Those Star Wars edits sound rad - especially the grindhouse ones. I may take you up on that invite as well.
Also, we should probably change the name of this thread to 'Ryan and Trey talking about tv and other random stuff'

That's awesome, Trey! Tanya and I pondered that exact same place in Negril I think.. we were really close to doing that but something about a road trip pulled us in that direction. I'd love to see pics and we'd still love to have a holiday like that... and shucks, I'd feel obliged to take the locals up on their offerings... *wink*
We love that resort idea though, just hanging around eating and drinking and relaxing.. that's totally our idea of a holiday!
I think if people knew what cool stuff we were talking about in here they'd join in more... pretty fun thread...

Hey! You and Tanya could always go down to Hedonism2 for an anniversary! Grab some jerk chicken lasagna and smoke a bowl. Well, probably a j.
But season 3 was pretty good!
My girlfriend and I have been on a sci-fi show bender. We had the misfortune of watching FarScape and SG:U back to back. Two shows in a row that ended on a cliff hanger! That's frustrating!
We're watching Sliders now because I've only ever seen a few episodes. Mark Motherfuckin-mothersbaugh did the soundtrack for it, so you know it's good!

Yo Blake! I like the way you think buddy! And yeah, season 3 was awesome, I loved it.
Did you like FarScape? Did you watch the movies? Peace Keeper Wars or whatever? I went through that whole series a few years ago and thought it was pretty fun and cool... it still surprises me they didn't do more of it.
I've never got into the Stargates... is Universe a good one to start with?
I liked Sliders when it was on tv, pretty fun show.
Do you guys like Dr. Who? Lots of fun sci-fi there if you haven't checked those out.. you probably have.. howsabout Red Dwarf? That's my favourite sci-fi!

Lots of love for Dr. Who and Red Dwarf!
As far as Stargates are concerned I had a mate who was obsessed with it so I caught on to a bit of it. I wouldn't start with Universe as it's more of a survivor/group of people in middle of nowhere/star trek thing and has a different feel from the rest of the series, I thought it was mediocre to alright (mostly because it had Robert Carlyle) but apparently it was a shock for the fans or something.
Any appreciaten here for David Simon shows? Treme? The Wire?

Re: Who Loves Badass TV shows? Let's hear it!
Yeah, it was fun. We watched the movie too, but it wasn't as satisfying as wrapping it up over a whole season would have been.
Nooo...it's sort of like Lost...in space. But slightly less stupid. Man, I hated Lost. I guess it's a decent drama type thing. Definitely different than the other Stargates though. It's pretty much unrelated to the rest of the franchise. I'd start at the beginning- Stargate the movie and then SG-1. The cast of the show is pretty fun if you haven't seen it but have kept up with your Sci-fi shows: John and Aeryn from Farscape, Helen from Sanctuary, plus a bunch of "oh hey that guy!" types.
Ha! Robert Carlyle's the man! We've been watching Once Upon a Time, and he's the only good character in that one too...
I actually haven't been watching the new Dr. Who. Loved Red Dwarf! Did you watch Hyperdrive?
They had David Simon teach a class at my school like a year ago. Would have been fun but my schedule wouldn't allow it...not much for crime shows though. Except for Grimm. Mostly because of the monsters in that though.
