Y'all are definitely my benchmark guys that make me feel better about buying gear

The Fideleater arrived this morning, which was a nice surprise - it makes nice noises
I haven't had too much time with it as some Lego arrived for my daughter too, and she currently prefers "you do it Daddy" to building it herself.
I've now got a bag of bits which was once a Strat copy to put back together before I spend some proper time with some of the new arrivals.

I’ve been reorganizing my preexisting hoard this weekend and it makes me feel a bit like a benchmark guy. Yikes. I may need to purge beyond what I already intended.
So my ideal isn’t minimalism but “fewer but better.” Which does still seem monstrous.

Anyone gone on an editing-down purge successfully? “I don’t use this so I don’t need it.” “This is good but not really for me.” That sort of thing? I can afford good stuff without selling stuff so that isn’t a motivator. (I’m keeping pedge mainly just to pressure myself to better learn the things I already have before getting new things, another reason to simplify.)
Am I banned yet?

Not recently but a couple of years ago, with my pedals. I honestly didn't sell that many but I really did think about WHY I was keeping everything I was keeping. I still try to stick by the same rules for buying more stuff, "if I buy this does it do something I can't already do" "I should try to recreate this effect with gear I already own"

yes, a much better guideline than : "does this sound incrementally different than the near identical thing i already own" or "does this this look effin' rad"

Those are pretty much all I've got left to work with now . . .

there's definitely a few boxes i could stand to move on out because i don't think i'll use them again. but then comes the "but what if you need that Muff for something?" syndrome.

I have paired down my pedals from four or five years ago, but mostly because I've spent money on software and things that can replicate a lot of what's been flipped. My other secret? More or less I only buy things when they fit some very specific criteria and nothing else. Like, I knew I probably wasn't going to be able to go back to the States to get my amp this year, so I bought a Sansamp. I know I love the KWB-alikes I have, so I bought a KWB. Pest Tattern is a Pest Tattern, no way I'm sleeping on that.
2020 is the exception, because I will have five pieces of non-Secret Satan gear coming in, but mostly I have all the stuff I need for all the projects I'm working on and a bunch of stuff that's great to have on rare occasions/not easily replace if flipped, and so on. If you have what you need, you don't need more stuff.

My gear buying might be done for 2020 if this is still here when I get paid next week.
