I thought about this earlier today when i checked prices for some boss stuff and it was insane. like any old boss pedal that was 50 bucks some years ago is super expensive now suddenly only because of pure collector insanity

Just curious, was this on Reverb? I'm gonna assume it was because it seems to me that's where the greedy hawkers go. It's part of the reason I don't browse there anymore (that and the fact it is very America-centric, and I don't want to see a bunch of gear I can't get shipped to Norway except maybe for an exorbitant amount). In the rare case I feel the GAS I'd rather look for a good used deal in my own country or from Japan, where like old BOSS and Ibanez stuff is still affordable. I will have some items coming from the US in a while but that's a special order I could not have gotten anywhere else.

Ebay and locally too! Sometimes you get lucky locally but I see "rare" boss pedals go cheaper than stuff like the ol' bf-2 and oc-2 everybody had. kinda freaky what demand does to an used market like this

Ah I see... yeah price gouging definitely happens everywhere. It's almost like some musicians are just assholes or desperately need money for drugs (or maybe an expensive dog), lol. I'm looking at two FZ-2s locally now , one is €300 and the other is €500. More common ones go for €40-60, which is fair. I guess if you really can't live without an original FZ-2 and the stoner clout that comes with it, go for it, but to me it's just stupid.

that's pretty hilarious considering you could buy two or three high quality clones/similar pedals for that price.

FZ-2 have been insane for a long while but even those prices are fucking nuts. I remember the HM-2 craze but they never seemed to sell that high. Like $150-200 USD for a while but now you can find one for $75 locally again. I don’t see that ever happening with the FZ-2 (lees supply? Stoner rock is more popular than Entombed-core? :idk: )

It would sound too digital, and might only work occasionally...next glitch pedal?

I got my HM-2 for about 100 I think, jumped on that fast. But I see them going for €150 or more usually. You would think black metal dominated the Norwegian metal scene, but seems to me the last 15 years or so stoner rock has emerged as the most popular form (so maybe the FZ-2 is super desireable among that crowd?). Which I hate, even though I am technically a stoner. Just think it's one of the most boring and conservative forms of heavy music, at least how the bands here usually do it.

There is definitely a lot more derivative and backwards looking stoner rock than there is good stuff, these days. But good things still happen and the classics sound as good as they ever did.

What I really don't get is how it became a genre where you need to have that pedal for that tone. Guess it's just the conservatism thing.

I completely agree - I have been listening to doom for the better part of my life and I realized there's only a handful of current bands that I'm still interested in - for me it's almost a dead art form. Like I just hear these bands my friend suggests and I'm just not fucking interested!

However you are only a country away from SALEM'S POT who seem to have captured that certain something - I don't know what makes them so special, but they fucking hit it hard! That being said I had a really fun time at their show but I could go the rest of my life without hearing another Monolord record. Or another Sleep clone. Very rare I her a new doom band and I'm like "yes fun I will buy this record" any more. But the stuff I love from days of yore is always a trip.
