My GAS for a new power supply has been satisfied...BY NOT BUYING ONE.
Probably nobody is gonna find this relevant but i'm just too satisfied not to write this.
Because i just couldn't accept the fact that i need a new power supply (or at least i thought so), i decided to make some calculations, deep dive in the internet looking for the true power draws of pedals, re-think the entire board-powering and.... I WON.
The Truetone CS12 never let me down during all this years, and i can confirm it's a winner.
First: i found out that the old POG requires only 220mA 18VDC (reversed polarity) instead of the 500mA indicated by EHX - i don't know why i never looked for this information before, considering that i've been using it for more that 10years - DUMB ME.
Second: i realized that, deep in my "i want a new PSU" hole, i was forgetting the big advantage of CS12: the entire power (3000mA) is divided through the outputs regardless how the outputs are marked. This means i can power digital pedals that draw more than 200mA from outputs marked as 100mA. And this works for the 18VDC outputs too.
Third: i used to daisy chain 3-4 pedals to power all the board with the 1SPOT 11 outputs, and this totally worked until i added a coule ofacquirements in the last months. Turns out i simply had to re-think what pedals to daisy-chain and what needed a dedicated output.
RESULT: i just wired the entire chain of 19 pedals on the new board (yep, it's huge) and everything works correctly without background noise issues, including the POG!
I think i fucked up at least three dedicated power supplies during the years just because i thought there was no other way to power that damn octaver.
Now i daisy chained 4 fuzz/dirt/boost pedals, 1chorus, 1 tremolo and 1 tuner, without hum issues.
End of the story, hope you enjoyed it, i'm just sooooooo happy.
Aslo i have to mention this couldn't have been doable on a Strymon Zuma - which costs a lot more $ - because of the power distribution thing.
I just have to wait for the new patch cables and i can wire everything properly - right now i'm in cable-mess nightmare.
