In my experience, if bass dirt is disappearing in the mix it's usually an EQ issue or sometimes too much gain. The gain thing can be overcome though, I pretty much always play with apocalypse level gain on bass. I used to use blends frequently and once I kind of dialed in my preferred style of tone, never needed it, even though I have had a revolving door of actual gear I was using for it.
Of course tone is subjective, there's no objective scale for anything.

yurp. totes not telling anybody how to roll.
just for me, going louder just meant a louder muddy signal.
i love enough blend at some point in the chain to have a bit clean definition.
..... or fuck it and go 2 cabs like i used to, one with all the effects, one with sometimes clean, sometimes different effects.

I've been on the side of just no blend whatsoever since I got into effects but am now leaning the other way, at least with fuzzes and modulation. I play bass 99.9% of the time though. A stereo bass rig is something I've been thinking about for a while, because that would be super dope

my bassist used the bass muff i picked up the other day at practice today. we were both really impressed at how well the bass cut compared to previous dirt pedals. that dry blend is key.
The bass boost function on the bbm is in a real sweet spot and lets you use the right side of the tone without losing your muffy beefiness. really good dirt.

jia. i mean, for me, it was always playing around at home shits sounded so amazing and full and awesome but then with even just a drummer (i rarely had to contend with giving up frequencies to a guitar player, that's even MORE complicated), playing together i could hear like half of what was going on. felt like a waste.
a double rig IS fucking awesome. it's a whole 'nother set of cabs to haul, and i just got too old for that. MURDOCK LEVELS OF BACK PAIN.
but going from one out to twos was AMAZING. i had the larger board for one side, then a really simple (usually a fuzz into multi efx like the B3 into a preamp) board for the second, a switch system to decide if the bass out was going Out 01, Out 02, or both.
FUN.

I sold some gear recently and now I have a tidy little gear fund sitting in my PayPal balance.
Of course it may go without saying that I'm now completely emotionally paralyzed.
