Some interesting sounding stuff. The first track reminded me of Spaceheads a little. The second one was like Tom Waits with a slight EthioJazz bent. I dug the tuba on the third track. Wasn't really feelin' that last track w/ the Hang drum though. Overall, a nice lot.

Listening now--quite liking the klezmer/Kurt Weill vibe on the Beartown, but I can catch the Waits and Ethiopia vibes as well. The first piece is dense--makes me want to listen a few times before opining. I do like the bass work on the hang drum piece.... On first listen, I liked the Sons of Kemet most because dat rhythm(!). A lot of similar touchstones to the Beartown....

Actually, that one brought to mind this:

Lounge Lizards--No Pain for Cakes

which drags tango into the stew....

All in all, a really nice selection with lots to check further...thanks Dapper Bandit!

Nice! The last track of this little collection was recorded at the Left Bank:

There's also a little footage of the Arkestra at the Left Bank in A Joyful Noise.

Yee-ha! :joy: That's what I'm talking about...

Speaking of the Blount one, I've been meaning to tell somebody that "Sun Ra: a Space Odyssey" is a pretty great travelogue of Herman's (mostly) pre-Arkestra travels through some of the less-travelled but no less wonderful byways of the American musical galaxy (and pretty cheap to boot, but not, alas, on youtube).... Check it if you like Sonny, boogie, blues and early r&b in addition to some choice early arkestrations!
