Where the fuck do you guys find Vietnamese or Thai coffee?
(I live in Kentucky, there are only a handful of American coffee shops besides Starbucks. I'm secretly just jealous.)

At a Vietnamese or Thai restaurant.
Not sure how many of those you'll find in KY.
You can also make it at home. There're lots of instructions on how to on the internet. You can order all the stuff you need online.

Re: Do you folks like coffee?
Im a huge espresso addict. I need a new machine BAD. Whats out there that doesnt cost a fortune? Was looking at the Melitta caffeo Solo, I cant seem to find any similar alternatives with roughly the same specs/features, at least not for the money
Dont need milk, foam, cream, or any of that crap. I kinda want the option of using fresh beans of my choice, and its got to be easy and speedy to use. Suggestions anyone?

do it...Aeropress...is the only way to get good coffee at home.greyscales wrote:Just tried using condensed milk in my usual coffee. It was better than I expected. Usually I hate any sugar, but this wasn't too much.
Might be getting an Aeropress for xmas, which might be good considering I've had three french presses break on me this year.
i've gone through all types of coffee machines, mechanical and electronic, and nothing comes close to the aeropress for maintaining the flavour of the coffee.

Just got a moka pot for Christmas. I am excite, and soon I will be
I'm out of Bustelo, though, which is a bummer.
Also, Thai/Vietnamese coffee is wonderful stuff. I live next door to a great Thai restaurant and stop over for coffee frequently. They sell bags of the ground coffee they use, so I make it at home from time to time, too. I love those little Vietnamese drip-brewers that sit on top of your coffee cup.

Re: Do you folks like coffee?
They take a fair amount of trial and error, unfortunately. It's a matter of finding the right balance between how finely ground your coffee is and how tightly you compress the coffee with the screw-on bit of the filter. I tend to use a bit coarser grind than a standard drip, but finer than a french press grind. I use 2 to 3 tablespoons of coffee, pre-moisten them with a few drops of water, and screw the top of the filter down until it's fairly tight. Pour a bit of sweetened condensed milk into your cup, put the filter on, and pour in your water. You want it to take 4 to 5 minutes for the water to drip through. Add ice if you want it chilled, stir it up, and enjoy.
Getting the filter tight enough is the trickiest bit, but after making a few cups, you get the feel for it.

I've been enjoying Peet's Major Dickason's through my Chemex lately. Think that only gives me 60% hipster cred

If it were still the '60s, you'd have 100% hipster cred.

I got a small coffee machine for xmas along with some fancy beans of different kinds. I stopped drinking coffee a few years ago. Guess I'm back on the wagon.

Re: Do you folks like coffee?
i tried Chemex and it was good for a while...i got friendly with a few barista's in my local cafe, who made really good coffee. they raved about the aeropress, so i tried it...and have to admit, i liked it more the Chemex. In the tradition of a gear head guitarist i even A/B'd them using the same coffee in both units and i had some white bread in between to neutralise my pallet!christianatl wrote:Do you even pour over / Chemex / Clever Dripper, bro?samzadgan wrote:do it...Aeropress...is the only way to get good coffee at home.greyscales wrote:Just tried using condensed milk in my usual coffee. glad you liked it. What coffee do you put through it?greyscales wrote: Oh man. Aeropress is good. Smooth as silk. I'm a fan.
I've only been to the US a few times and even then only NYC and San Francisco...i have to admit the best coffee i've had over there was at Four Barrel cafe in San Francisco...I bought their beans on the last trip...that was really nice...I believe it was the shop espresso blend.
