Here's what I've been working with recently. Roland GR-30 -> Tuner-> Boss SYB-5 -> Looking Glass -> MIJ HM-2 -> Boss PS-5 x2 -> Tensor -> DL4

I had been using a turbo rat in place of the HM-2 for a few years, but I copped the HM-2 for 100$ shipped from Armenia so I figured why the hell not. I haven't used it in a band context due to covid, but it's pretty neat. I've also been playing around with a DOD Death Metal in that position, but similarly haven't had a chance to use it in a band setting as our plans to play live deteriorated. For the last shows we played in early March, I also used a Line 6 FM4 at the top of the chain, and a TC Helicon vocal harmonizer haphazardly throw in there. I'd like to get a bigger board and a bigger power supply, but considering the lack of live shows, it's not really a priority anymore.

The Tensor is the most recent addition. I'm not completely sold on it, but it does the digital stutter thing I had been doing with a Digitech Digidelay until the switch shat out. I think it would be cooler with presets or an expression pedal, but I got it through a prymaxe (?) sale for like $230, which, while still the most expensive pedal on my board, isn't too bad.

Good news, kinda - through the control port you can assign an expression pedal to control any of the knobs (but maybe you knew that?) So, maybe a little more money/pedal board space, but if you want that bad enough, you can have it.

Also, others who have one can maybe pipe in, but pretty sure through midi control you can bootstrap presets (but again, you're going to need a controller for that, so mo' space/moneez required). Plus, for $100, they'll sell you the Remote 4, which gives you access to presets/additional pedal functions (probably via midi as well). Possibility abounds....

Haha true true. I just hate paying for utility stuff so much I know I would get a lot out of an expression pedals I wish all of Red Panda's pedals came with the soft touch preset buttons that particle has. I somehow didn't know about the remote 4, but that does look awfully tempting. I'm fortunately pretty financially secure despite having had almost no work since covid hit, but I'm definitely having a harder and harder time justifying GAS

EDIT: Apparently Red Panda released instructions for a DIY remote 4. New project imbound! Thanks for letting me know about these

Tensor is my desert island. I use the 4 button switch and also use MIDI. Tensor does it all.

Haha true true. Looks like a Squier Super Sonic. Apparently they were inspired by a picture of Hendrix playing a Jazzmaster upside down

Yeah! It's the old Vista series Super Sonic. It's pretty super. It's set up with an SD JB and Jazz, and a Roland GK-2 or something like that. Squier just rereleased them in the Paranormal series, and I kinda want to try one out, but they didn't release any of the og wonky colors.

Hit me up with some settings! It's a little confusing, and I'd love to hear what others do with it.

w/r/t Tensor, it can seem underwhelming if you're trying to use it for stutter fills like you'd do with a DD-5/6 etc (feels less intuitive having to use diff footswitches to capture and stop the loop IMO). The magic is in the stretching/reverse/randomness.

My fav setting is:
Speed - full CCW, Time - 10:30, Pitch - 10:30, Blend - full CW, Random - full CCW, REC/FWD, L/L

It's like vaporwave on yr guitar.

Bonus: samples are retained when switching presets w/ a remote, so you can make a duplicate preset with randomness added in and turn your loop into a random pitch generator then turn it back to normal, and other fun stuff.
Defs try it with a remote, gives it a TON of extra functionality.

I’ve always thought that we tend to think of harmonic perc as bright because our first exposure to it was with Alu neck guitars. So much clang.

The Intersound IVP is more responsible for that legendary clang rather than the HP. At least in my experience. IVP is very powerful for tone shaping. HPs do seem to vary wildly in what they produce. My favorite is actually the one that D Rock made and sent out in a tourbox to some of us.

It can be, probably my impression is filtered by hearing too many perc demos that specifically try to recreate the Albini-tone.

i second this very much. The remote switch is a pretty easy DIY THING (i did it and my experience with solder is zero, i just have to find a decent housing for it), or you can find some third-companies that make compatible remote switches.
i love to set random halfway, maximum timestretch and a bit of shifting and playing with really short samples to add bacground weirdness.
On the other hand i'm waiting for the upcoming firmware update to see if they fix some minor bugs i hear in real-time pitchshifting modes (talking about small cyclical fluctuations).
Curious to hear what kind of sound you put out with this board too, seems a lot Nick Reinhart-esque

Waiting on some pedals (like the Pest Tattern), so this board will soon see some changes, but it's a total knob-tweaker zone-out board, which is also great fun!

totally understandable. I use it 90% of the time as ring mod, even when i want to use the BQ as a reverb i just crank the ring mod reverb knob and lower the ring rate to make it a sort of weirdly trem/ring-modulated reverb. Even setting it at low rates as tremolo and use the modualtion knob to vary the speed is cool. It's just too good.
