I have a weird problem

I don't lose picks. Which means I sometimes spend a lot of time playing the same pick.

During a week long tour, I changed a pick once. Because I just don't lose them and I forget they "go bad"

(also I've been struggling with finding the right pick for my bass playing... I don't know... )
I make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique

I'd suggest Fender Heavys or 1mm Jim Dunlop Nylons, I like them for bass cuz they're both sturdy yet flexible enough to play quickly.
The Heavys have a brighter attack than the nylons.

these are great, i've been using the 2mm ones for a while now.
ultex jazz III's are great but better for guitar than bass since they're small.

I went through 5 or 6 types of picks looking for the right one a few months ago. Jazz III for me too.

What's the trick for making more interesting effects work in heavier music? In the practice spot I have a pile of reverbs and delays and a couple other ones and inevitably I end up just slamming along with a chain of tuner>boost>fuzz>distortion>overdrive. I could even do without some of that, but I like options and the gain on my amp is lame so I need the pedals to do all the heavy lifting. We're doing a sort of hardcore punk, sort of powerviolence thing, but I still think there should be room for something. Especially delay.

I sort of have this problem too.

I tried for a long time to make delay work in my heavy music. The only luck I really had was using slapback before my dirt to make everything smeared and noisy. Same with reverb. Unless you use it for quieter parts to build some tension between the heavies.

I think for stuff that requires precision, time based effects can be a hindrance. Dirt, filters, pitch shifting/octavers, and fast modulation all work pretty well. Also, consider going with reverb instead of delay.

Yeah. I've tried reverb too. Works ok for slow sections, but doesn't seem to add much compared to when I'm playing other musi types. I'm lookin to pick up a bitquest so I have lots of optio a to fiddle with for quick modulation like you're saying.

Not if you play in time with or have time effect objects in time with what you play, it's really that simple. Really both are the best of ideas, reverb and delay, they work very well together :thumb:

Anything with a slow sweep can be rad - phaser, flanger. morbid Angel do this a fair bit. Ta a good way to give variation to a riff when you use the same riff for the verse and the bridge or whatever.
Pitch vibrato is unusual in really heavy music, but Inquisition use it really judiciously and to great effect. Check out their new album, it's all over it.
Chorus and heavy distortion always sounds gothy to me, but fuck it is awesome. Type O negative stylish.
Filters are great. I use a penny pedals radio deluxe to push stuff into the background.
Ring mod and power violence seems to me a match made in heaven. Get a fuck off square wave ring mode and a heap of fuzz and go nuts.
Super choppy trem (with tap) is good for industrial sounds.

Modulation and heavy music, especially crust and grind and what not, is pretty unusual but I love it. It's a nice way to kind of get around the tropes that are part of whatever genre you're into.

Also envelop based stuff, like the subdecay noise box can be a cool way to add some brutality to longer held out tones.

I like the 2mm ones too, but for most stuff, the 1.5s handle a bit better for me. For a long time the 1.5s were the only pick I used for bass or guitar.
