The thing on the left? It's a hot air gun. It makes soldering small SMD chips (like the SMT32) light years easier. This video is ultra long but just click around and you'll see.

Sharktooth, have you looked at the 0 Coast? For someone that 'doesn't want to do modular' it might scratch some of the same itch.
