QM rules. I go back and forth about using it as my main dirt pedal. Right now my go-to is a providence stampede, it's a little harder on the attack and more metallic sounding for a more noise rock thing, but if I were to slim down the board, I'd go back to the QM for sure. I'm sure it sounds sick with the WB going into it.
The witch burner side is a lower gain version than the standalone pedal. I’m kinda blown away by how good they are stacked. I got the QM dialed in pretty sweet and was feeling pretty happy. Ran the WB side in front and it was just so good. Sounded so full and the low end is awesome. I’ve only used it for one practice so far so still getting things tweaked, but I’m really happy so far.

Nice to see some activity here! I’m going to also start necrobumping old threads in this sub-forum.
Also, I have found myself drawn to/needing a big ass delay or reverb with presets and ambient crap. I’ve been leaning towards the source audio ventris for reverb and the empress echosystem for delay. Might only need one, but these seem like the sickest options. Am I wrong?

My custom WitchBurner into Pharaoh that Mark built had the low gain mod done to it and I loved it so much that I have my standalone Witchburner modded like that as well. It's my favorite boost pedal ever.
Also, it's good to see some activity in here. I come by every now and again and its usually dead. I miss this forum. Facebook groups suck.
Reanimated necro account! Was cleaning out some bookmarks and clicked on in.
I do sorta miss gear forums — but a lot of them are gobs of finely-honed elitist toxicity, so little appetite for engagement.
Facebook is for other people. Social media in general has little value to me, except for (sometimes) reddit. Neat to see other people's gear and projects there but discussion is very surface level, so not too much meat on the bone so to speak.
But much to report. In the past half decade I've built probably the most ridiculous doom rig conceived, so that's been fun. Maybe I'll start a new thread for it… if I can remember how to internet properly

Hit the nail on the head for me. I hate facebook groups because it is just full of useless banter. I miss this place and have been very glad to see a little spark of activity on here. I hope it happens more often.
I'd love to see what you put together. I've gone through a few setups over the past 5 years.... everything from a multi amp setup with crazy midi switching, to a single amp and stomp boxes out front. My current rig is gonna be a combination of rack gear, pedals and amps controlled by a Rocktron All Access out front. The goal is to be able to load in, plug one cable in and ride. Gotta figure out how to speak complicated midi though.
Verryyy interesting. Almost started dipping into rack gear myself (it's super cheap!)
This thing looks like a terribly useful device to get a lot of utility from multiple rack units… you ever hear about it?

I seriously forget how posting photos works, or I'd post mega rig. Guessing need to use a 3rd party host
It's funny to have seen the rise and fall and resurgence of rack gear multiple times now. In the early 2000s I made a rack based rig for a metal band I was in at the time. There was so much cheap 80s and early 90s rack gear floating around that was the absolute opposite of cool and it was easy to get good tones with and be super loud, and it was dirt cheap or people practically throwing it away because they felt like it was useless junk. Did the same 10 years later with recording gear, before I switched to a DAW. Now there's so much cool digital and compact solid state gear out there again in rack format, is the old rack gear still cheap junk on the market or is everything "vintage and rare" now, by default?
The only rack gear I have is a couple of amps: Mesa Triaxis + Mesa 2:90 poweramp and a Hilbish betaAmplifier (700w version).
I really (really) wanted to get a Yamaha SPX-90, for the Kevin Shields reverse reverb thing, but I found someone did a small run of pedal versions of that setting, so I got that instead. When I have a more permanent place, I'll eventually start curating a ridiculous 6 ft rack with all sorts of kooky stuff, just because.
Good question about how the market is unfolding w that. I haven't keyed in too closely on it, but it seems it's like everything else — pricy just because everything is expensive (thanks Obama!). However, craigslist seems to have some pretty inexpensive stuff peppered on there that people are just looking to shed fairly quickly. At least in Denver, heh
SPX-90s appear to be going for $200-250 now, which is up from when i got mine used in the mid-00s. the MidiVerb II is more reasonable at $150-200. my Rane MC22 stereo compressor is around $100. that's not that awful, up about 50% from 20 years ago. rackmount stuff was unbelievably cheap then.
i have to ask: do you use all those amps at once?

I had a Yamaha SPX-90 decades ago, but didn't know about the MBV lore of it then. I just got it in a lot of random rack fx, along with an FX-500, some Peavey rack mounted power amps, some compressors, and some other odds and end from a guy off CL

Thanks for asking, I absolutely use everything all at once. I don't consider myself a collector as much as an "experiencer"
Hey, you internetted correctly
That's the fun of having loud gear, playing loud. I do miss having multiple massive stacks side by side and just blowing the roof off sometimes
fucking hell, was i ever misinformed about prices for rack gear. the Rane SP15 5-band parametric EQ i bought for $75 in the late 00s now goes for $350 and up. i’m kind of bummed because i wanted a Lexicon unit. I’m not paying the price of a guitar for a sophisticated reverb unit.

I still see the MPX-1 go for $250 and under all the time, which isn’t a lot more than pre-pandemic pricing. Not the fullest Lexicon experience but a very good one, kind of at a “would I really ever need anything more?” tier. But then the thing is to not listen to the things people do with the 80 or 81. The creep of capability driving one past just having a great sound and making music. I am not a good benchmark for a reasonable balance.
On the SPX thing, I got the Magicstomp for those sounds. Was disappointed that the Kevin settings did not do instant glide guitar if you don’t really play like Kevin does, and I don’t so yeah. I should revisit, tho, since I’ve been messing with the nonlinear reverb algo in the HX One and enjoying it.
