Really?

I know you got it at a steal, but I'm pretty sure you could flip for profit?
Yeah I don't think you'll save a heap going the pre and power route, not new anyway.
Get an old SS power amp, something reliable (summoning whiskey to recommend class D) and spend your money on a decent pre.

You could probably grab a cheap Hartke? They're in abundance down here and they have a neutral power amp.
I'm not the biggest fan of the pre but at least it'd cop pedals ok and you can line in with no hassle.
Hartke is a great idea...like you say they are around and cheap as well.

But the Hilbish looks rad as balls and Buzzo uses em, so they must be cool.
Actually, get one and slave it in to your Matamp and tell me what the result is.

The only other thing I can think of would be get the Orange OB1 bass head.
the verellen preamps are like $750 new vs. the $550 for the helbish design stuff.
just as an fyi.
Well, I meant you're probably better off digging for a used SkyHammer pre at the $4-500 mark and paying MUCH less to ship to Oz that the $550 for the Hilbish and WHATEVER THE FUCK THAT SHIT WOULD COST TO SHIP HERE.
I should have been clearer, sorry.

They're not the worst sounding bass amp for the money, but like I said, slaving in a rad pre is always an option.
I think they have a loop too, so you've got possible blend options there if you set it up right.

For the cost... should you maybe just try to snatch an old Sunn or Acoustic or even just buy the Orange CR120?

No Sunns in Australia.
Or at least, Tym owns most of them.

Acoustics, probably a few more of.

He had one I think?

Did you get a Skyhammer amp or the pre amp, don't remember seeing that in this thread.

cause I didn't post it in this thread. but I own the amp. I have a ton of shit I just stopped posting in here. Model T reissue, Fryette Pitbull CL100, 2 early 80's JCM800's, couple of bedrocks, have a Blackhawk Loki on order. so I got stuff and thangs. some other things.

but you should know. I have zero interest in pedals.

Those Freyette Pitbulls are quite nice. Definitely a good little haul. Your amp shed must be getting pretty crowded.

Fallen...that rig looks cool man. How are you diggin the Hovercraft?

This room is moving quick again these days!

The Hovercraft sounds great, perfect pairing with the Beta Lead. I would describe the Caribou as a circuit designed for tone tweakers. There is a contour control and then two EQ modes that allow a bunch of different tones. I have other amps like the YBA-1, JCM800, VTM 60, they all sound a certain way plus or minus 10%. This Hovercraft can sound a lot of different ways so finding the tone that blends with a specific drive pedal and another amp takes a little bit of time. That being said you can just put everything at noon and it sounds awesome that way too.

The builder did some tweaking on mine based on asking me what I like and what I don't like so I made sure that the presence control is usable and isn't an icepick like the JCM800 / VTM 60 one which was achieved. I also have a switch for a crunch mode on the drive channel which leaves me more headroom for stacking a Fuzz Throne and Pharaoh in front of the amp. Kind of like having a low gain input like on the VTM.

I've only had it for a couple of weeks so who knows, if anything bad happens I'll post it on here as well.

Yeah I forgot to specifically single T out. :Picard:
That was stupid.
What's been happening T-Rey?!
Lots of things going on my way. Not playing much anymore except a few minutes here and there, but even that's usually unplugged. Just working and grinding out this suburban nightmare that middle class white folks are tricked into living/chasing. We're selling our house and downsizing, which means less space for gear, but my wife will be able to stay home with out kid, so that seems like I should shut the fuck up about it and pack my house cheerfully.

Hope things are well your way - hear its been hot as all hell down there recently.

Cool man.
Yeah home ownership, what the fuck were we thinking?
But, I'm glad I'm not renting anymore because, down here at least, it's like living with a knife to your throat and your assailant has been huffing glue.
As long as everyone is happy.

Here in Chicago it's a struggle because either you A) Rent B) Move to the burbs that are slowly becoming wastelands C) Be rich money bags and buy a place in Chicago or the "Nice" suburbs. I've been able to find Cheap rent for as long as I've been renting apartments but prices keep increasing and I'm slowly moving further and further away from my neighborhood.

Although I do have a house inherited to me but it's in Mexico, and I would probably never buy a house because I could never take on real debt to be honest. I barely like using my credit card, I couldn't imagine buying a house and then paying it for 30 years and hope its worth the same or more than what I bought it for. My dad bought a house in the late 80's for 120,000 and it was a nice enough home in Chicago, but now it's turned ghetto in that area and he would be lucky if he got 40-50,000.

I spend less on my monthly mortgage than I ever have in rent.

We definitely got a very nice deal on our house. It needed some serious updating. We've done most of that work ourselves.

Most people in America live immodestly. I don't need a huge house even though I could get a bank to approve me for a much higher loan. A lot of people look at what their parents or friends parents or whatever did with their money and their homes and think they need 5 bed/3 bath. I definitely didn't need that much. Found a house on the edge of the city. 5 min drive to downtown but also walkable.

But that's just what worked for me. Not gonna work for everybody.

Yeah totally understandable I feel like if I didn't grow up in Chicago my view would be different, I know plenty of people in other states nearby pay less in mortgage than rent and live pretty comfortably. My rent for my three bedroom is 930 and it it's not bad but if I wanted to buy a house near me it would start at like 250,000 for a shack. Plus living on the edge of the city can mean like a 40-45 plus minute commute to the loop unless ya live in the nicer burbs. Or drive a car and that would be a whole nother thing. I do miss having the space to play music inside my parents house without giving a single fuck though. biking to a practice space blows ass.

Look at me griping about owning a home in Chicago, to be honest I can't handle the winters to want to do live here for the rest of my life.

Although you arent wrong, people tend to want everything bigger and badder and buy more than they should. But I guess should I really be saying that on this forum haha
