I started fucking with that Skyhammer more this week. so I started tracking some Archgoat/Deiphago/Teitanblood/Pissgrave stuff. So far I've done 2 songs. I'm liking it. Esp since i'm using something like that Verellen to utilize it in something massively disgusting and raw.

Did you get a Skyhammer amp or the pre amp, don't remember seeing that in this thread.

so...i have to sell my Thunderverb 200...which sucks...but house renovations are more important...and i still have my matamp...so not a the biggest issue in the world.
anyway, it got me thinking about how I would replace it with a high powered solid state amp...first thing that came to mind was Sunn or Acoustic...and also Orange CR120...but then, i started thinking outside the box...Quilter Tone block 200...200w, and tiny amp. Then I started to doubt the tonality of it...but then, i could easily get a preamp pedal to mimic the clean sound of an orange or marshall etc...and like my matamp, use the DA120 to get my gain.
Skyhammer is also on that preamp list...my questions is...even though its not the intended use...can it be used a clean tone shaping tool? or is it purely a distortion preamp pedal??

Skyhammer is a two channel pre amp.
But you could get Ben do something unique/interesting for you.
you could look into the Hillbillish Beta Lead preamp. They seem to be well regarded. Pair it with easy to find power amp of your choosing and a rack and voila. Solid state doom for days with plenty of additional tone shaping.

If you can find a Skyhammer you'll get one cheaper than the Hilbish.
But the Hilbish looks rad as balls and Buzzo uses em, so they must be cool.
Actually, get one and slave it in to your Matamp and tell me what the result is.
The only other thing I can think of would be get the Orange OB1 bass head.

OB1's are pretty expensive...im looking to save money off the sale of the TV200...but i guess the Quilter and a preamp is probably gonna cost about a grand too...
or maybe an old marshall mosfet...but not sure how good they are as a pedal platform
edit: Crate powerblock has a line-in too...that could probably be used as a slave as well

Compared to what you could get for the 200?
Really?
I know you got it at a steal, but I'm pretty sure you could flip for profit?
Yeah I don't think you'll save a heap going the pre and power route, not new anyway.
Get an old SS power amp, something reliable (summoning whiskey to recommend class D) and spend your money on a decent pre.
You could probably grab a cheap Hartke? They're in abundance down here and they have a neutral power amp.
I'm not the biggest fan of the pre but at least it'd cop pedals ok and you can line in with no hassle.

Good call - Hartkes are affordable, reliable and have lots of clean power. Sansamp into a Hartke as a power amp is one of my backup rigs, and I gigged with it for years.

the verellen preamps are like $750 new vs. the $550 for the helbish design stuff.
