What pickup do you have in your tele? I have a quarter pounder in my tele right now and it is nice but I was thinking of something a little different. Maybe pick up a tele custom body from warmoth and slowly put together one of those.

A Schecter F520T, but I just switched to a MK Guitars "Walk of Life" pickup because the Schecter died.

And it's an Esquire ha.

Congrats to Deadhand! That's rad.

Big thanks to all who have listened so far. This conversation we've been having these last few years definitely shaped things and I'm really grateful to all who have helped out with advice, gear trades, new sounds etc. You all fucking rule! The Devils Child Records folks who are putting it on vinyl are really stoked on it so hopefully it'll be ready this spring.

So I sacrificed the Matamp to the Tone Gods yesterday. They were pleased so they rewarded me with a Model T. Its a 2nd gen and its spotless (pic in the post your rig thread). Its got a set of JJ KT 88 in it but the guy also included the original Tung Sol 6550 that came with the amp. I keep reading how these are a great clean pedal platform but this amp is anything but. When running the both input its dirty clean all day long no matter where I set the pre volumes. Still sounds great no doubt, but I haven't had a lot of time to spend with it and wonder if I'm doing something different than most people. It has gold pin JJ12ax7 in v1 and 2 and a Sovtek 12ax7wc in v3. I've got a 12au7 here at the house and a 12ay and 12at7 at the practice space. Should I pop those in there?

Speaking of tubes, can you guys help me with these questions...

Image

This marking is on the back of a JJ 12ax7 but I can't find anything about it online.

I know this is an old Ei but is it normal for the tube to flash really bright when the amp is first turned on in standby or does it mean that the tube is going bad? I had it in my Soldano and it would do that so I took it out. It still sounded great, but i got paranoid. Its the only tube I've had that i can think of that would do that.

Rad dude!
Try the at7 in the phase inverter.

Dunno about those Eis, but the last time tubes flashed in an amp for me shit was arcing and they but the fucking dust hardcore.
End of NOS 60s Mullards.

No comment on those tubes but I just ordered a re-tube kit for the Mesa F-100 I just picked up and my retube kit for my Dual Rectifier showed up yesterday. Cannot wait to be deafeningly loud at practice.

We're gonna need some more bass gear. :D

The 12au7 I have here in the phase inverter did the trick but I'll try the 12at7 when I get to the space. What I thought was a Sovtek 12at7 is really a 12ax7 that I moved to V2 and then I put the JJ with the N5LN5 marking on it in V1. Clean, but has some grit on it especially when digging in really hard. Takes the Pharaoh and the Rat like a champ. Gonna try out the Crown of Horns with it and see how that sounds later.

Did some scratch trackins yesterday for 5 songs. Hopefully the sound improves when we start doing overdubs. Anybody have any tips on room mic placement for the whole band?
